Default 1.6 RR Clearance

When my engine goes back together, I well be installing 1.6 RRs. I was told by acouple of people I work with it's a good idea to run stud girdles (I dunno if that's how you spell it) because the rocker nuts like to back off. Do I really need them or can I go without? And what can I do about the clearance problem? I have yet to find covers that are higher and have the notch for the alt. Also, I was told before that some brand makes an adapter that makes it where you can run covers with the outer bolts. I know a lot of people on here are running 1.6 RRs, so what did you do about this problem?

Thanks!

I have 0 issues with my 1.6's. I have the Crane Gold Race rockers that are self aligning. I do not run guide plates or stud girdles and haven't had any problems.

Yes Most aftermarket 1.6 Rockers clear the Stock Valve Covers just fine. A little tweaking is required sometimes for the wider body pro magnum rockers from Comp Cams. From doing some reading Some people have had problems w/ Non-Self Aligning Pro Mags loosening the rocker nut, but I haven't seen a case of anyone complaining about S/A pro Mags or similiar brand loosening.

Just give that poly lock a good wrenching and it shouldn't come loose. You could always apply a dab of blue (low strength) loctite to help keep them tight. I've seen some people recommend tightening the rocker nuts to proper load and then backing off 1/8 turn, and while holding the rocker nut tighten the poly lock. When it becomes tight, remove the wrench holding the rocker nut and retighten the rocker nut 1/8 turn via the poly lock. Or something along the lines of that

Not for the rockers and valve covers. Just stick to self aligning and you shouldn't have any problems. 1.6 is fine for stock covers.
