Tuning out the o2's? Just wanted to get everybodies opinion on this topic...I've been thinkin' about doin this, but Im not 100% sure yet...pros/cons, etc.. |
Well from my experience, open loop (no O2's) yields much better gas mileage. I was in open loop, went back to closed, and now I've went back to open loop (been playing with LT1 Edit). Here's my MPG: open loop as high as 18 MPG avg and closed loop about 9.5 MPG avg. **GRANTED** there was a couple variables in those two numbers but I really don't think it would make that huge of a difference. Tuning was essentially the same in other areas except for the open and closed loop part. My big MPG numbers in open loop was on a road trip with almost all highway driving but I was going 80-85 the whole time (~2300 rpm). My closed loop numbers were a mix of city and highway driving. However, I suspect that with that same mix of highway and city I could get at least 15 in open loop. Don't know of any cons really because the power enrichment tables govern your WOT no matter which mode you are in. |
are you talking about tuning out all of your o2's? or just the rears... |
Well, I only have two of them, so it'd be the front 2...;) |

Don't know of any cons really because the power enrichment tables govern your WOT no matter which mode you are in. You have some other problems to deal with then. O2s help the pcm monitor and ensure proper part throttle AFR that is all. Tuning them out means you lose the ability of the injection to adapt to changes be they weather or otherwise and can not gain you any power since they are ignored during power enrichment. I get like 17-18 city with my cammed stalled geared Caprice a lighter f-body should top that. |
