What is needed to take of the cap of the distributor. and where can i get this tool?

You need an inverted Torx bit. Now if you're cheap, just remove one of the screws that hold your top plate on your throttle body, get some vice grips and theres your inverted torx bit

Yup... and I would start with the top plate on the throttle body... I didn't actually know that matched up.... but when I needed to take my opti apart I looked in EVERY store in Huntsville, AL and nobody had the inverted torx I needed so we had to use a bolt with that head and vice grips, worked like a charm... I would save yourself the hassle and just do that.

Can it be done w/o taking off the balancer water pump?

Just the cap and rotor??? My opti is ok for now. Just want to put a new cap and rotor on it.

u have to take of the water pump and balencer unless u can do magic. but its not hard it took me like 4 hours but since u have a fbod it might take u a lil longer than that.
