The LS1 retainers fit on the narrower LS1 valves only. Comp Cams has the proper retainers. When you order them just tell them it is an LT1. 918 springs, 787 retainers, and 648 7degree locks. If someone tells you you need 10 Degree locks, fine, 7 Degree is what I use

well im getting a custom grind from cam motion looks like specs are gonna be 223/230 .575/.565 on a 111 lsa on 1.6rr so i need to decide what to use, any recommendations out there springs and such, my stock lifters should be fine i think

I am running a 230/236 cam with 544/555 lift and these springs are rated to 615, I believe. So, you should be fine. But if you call comp cams or one of the reputable people on this board (IM them) you should get a quick answer. These 918's are very good springs, and there are people with bigger cams than ours and they are doing fine.
Stock lifters are good too. I emailed over 18 different companies, from LPE to MTI and they stated , unless you plan on going over 6500rpm for extended periods, OEM lifters are fine, and thats what they use. I sepcifically asked about Comp Cams R lifters and no one could say they saw any benifit. Of course, theres always someone who will debate anything I guess. GM put allot of money into the design of the 918 style springs(yes they developed them) and the OEM lifters are pretty stout.

cool thanks for the info steve, well i talked to another company(dont know if they are a sponsor or not so left out the name) also and he is who i am prolly going to use cause once i found out thier price i figured out who i was going to use, because his price included cam, springs, retainers, locks, and locaters

Wise word from LE would be run around 140-145lbs of spring pressure. Lloyd talked with me for a while and recommended setting them up at 1.750 or 1.76 to obtain 140-145lb of spring pressure, no less.

since the lift is not above 550 isn`t it cheaper and more suitable to put stock ls6 springs with the required locks and retainers?

I think they`re good up to 6600 or 6700 rpm in an ls1 if I remember correctly in a magazine.

Need to consider lobe profile and valvetrain weight. Stock lobes are going to be mild compared to aftermarket even if the lift is nearly the same.
Plus consider the LSX motors make use of more rocker ratio to achieve lift which requires less spring due to less movement of the heavy hydraulic roller lifter, then as mentioned the LSX valves if nothing else are a little narrower don't know how long they are and such but that is at least one step towards being lighter. This is why so many folks just point people at experts because experts know to consider all these variables where you average forum goer just guesses based on a small fraction the necessary info ;) .

im going with 918 springs from comp cam because i don't want to do any machining on the heads. i heard they were a direct drop in with no machining required

I've been running the 918s ever since I found out you could use them. I love em and recommend it to anyone. Just DO NOT BUY COMP Rs
