Default AFR's new Elimnator Heads

Im sure some of you guys have heard of the new Eliminator heads.
I found this articel in the Engine Masters magazine I bought at Wal-Mart.

They will be offered in all the current port volumes 180, 195, 210cc street heads and 220, 227, and raised runner 215 "race" heads.

Says here that the 180 and 195 should be out by the time this issue im looking at hits stands. Then the 210 and 220 a few weeks later. Followed by the 227 and 215's

Here are a couple of flow specs from the article
180cc 275 at .600
street 195cc 285cfm at .600
competition 195cc 300cfm at .600
210cc over 300cfm at .500 lift
210cc 310 cfm at .600
220cc should be over 320cfm at .600

Says here the new 220 out flows the old 227's
and the new 210 out flows the old 220 & 227's "AWESOME"

looks like they will all be out very soon

I was under the impression that both the AFR 180 and 190cc heads had been discontinued long ago. Maybe some incorrect facts in the article?

Not bad, so if you had a good head porter go back through them you could still pick up some more power with those heads, very nice.

Now here's the part that doesn't jive well with me, and Steve 40th and I had actually discussed this a couple of months ago: all of AFR's SBC head selections have the word "Eliminator" in the heading at the top of the page. It's been this way for a couple of months now. I think it's kind've deceptive to have that in the title when the heads in the description are still their old heads.

You can verify this by comparing the flow #'s quoted in the Engine Master's article to the flow #'s on AFR's page.

they've always been an "eliminator" head, this is just a brand new line using the same name and part numbers. The catalog and website are currently being worked on to updated. Production of the 180cc and 195cc street heads began a few weeks ago. Currently there's a 10-12 week lead time. Tooling and machine work is finished, they are just waiting on castings to begin filling back orders. The 180cc comp., 190cc comp., 210 street/comp, 220 street/comp, 227, and 215 heads are going to be a couple month out. I believe the tooling and machining is done for the 210cc street head. The castings need to be modified for the comp packages which is why they are still a ways out. These new heads just destroy the old ones, what you guys dont see is the low and midlift flow numbers as well, rivals or equals some of the LSx heads.

The first dyno test of a 195cc street head is being conducted at Westech tomorrow.

When i talked to one of the guys at AFR a few months ago about heads for my turbo motor the guy said just sit tight and wait for their new heads. They say they will out-perform any head offered on the market.

This may be the real deal guys

There's only so much finite space to work with within the physical dimensions of any given head casting. You can keep making the ports bigger or playing around with port shapes to get more flow but there will at some point come a time when you've completely maxed out flow potential and the removal of any more material will be detrimental and begin hurting performance. So if what they said in this article about how the guy who designed these heads literally spent months grinding on one single port and taking constant measurements is true, it would seem that something that had been tweaked THAT much wouldn't have much room for improvement, if any.

Has anybody else gotten the impression from reading that Engine Master's article that having custom porting done to these heads could be a pretty risky endeavor?

Yea, seems that there wouldnt be much room for improvement....if there was, they probably would have found it with such significant attention to detail while designing them. But who knows....maybe someone with the $$ and the ***** will grind away and find out something. LOL Not me.
