Default cam choice

I am trying to decide what cam to put in my girlfriends 96 z28, I dont know much about lt1s or the performane market for the lt1. I am looking for a pretty radical cam but I dont want to have to fly cut pistons or anything like that. The car is pretty much stock so any other performance suggestions would be appreciated.

if the engine is in decent shape i would recommend looking for an LT4 conversion with the LT4 hotcam. not too pricey, still very drivable.

they claim 425 flywheel hp. what you get to the wheels is another story. the lt-4 conversion consists of lt-4 heads, intake manifold, and the lt-4 hotcam which specs 218/228 .525/.525 w/ a 112 lsa

i would recommend headers, catback, cold air intake, and other bolt ons before i would do a cam. build the car to where its going to see its full potential.

Definetly, I would not do a cam without headers and it already has cold air and a cat back I am probably going to do true duals though.

it depends on the brand and quality you want. they range from 500-1500 bucks. i went with pacesetters w/ armor coating. you can get them for around 500 bucks w/ y pipe now. then you need gaskets (percey's dead soft aluminum gaskets) is what i recommend. 02 sims are needed also for deleting the rear oxygen sensors. or you can get a pcm tune, which will gain you hp and the tuner can delete the oxygen sensors out that way. kooks headers are probably one of the better headers. there stainless steel and wont rust. but there a pretty penny. goodluck in which ever way you go.

Im not really trying to make this car crazy fast its for my girlfriend, and the whole reason I am doing anything to her car is because I dont want to hear any bitching when I start doing stuff to mine. I just want something that sounds good mainly. Of course I am going to put gears and headers on it but there wont be any head work or anything like that maybe a stall later on down the road. So what cam should I go with, I dont know what is good and whats not for the lt1 motor.

I'll suggest the Extreme Energy 503 cam from COMP, I used one in my previous 383 LT1. I would be hesitant to go bigger if the motor (especially heads) is stock.

Any header or exhaust mods better than stock will help.

Definately do the gears.

The cam might be a little over board for your girlfriend but I gave my best recommendation anyway.

I would suggest the following combo for her that will make a difference and not cause any headaches:

CAI
Exhaust
Gears
