Im going to get an intake for my car, i was going to go k&n, they go for well over $200, on ebay i can get a chrome intake with a k&n filter for about $70 shipped. I was wondering if they will create nearly the same hp since they use the same filter? I kinda figure i will lose hp from gettin a chrome intake anyway b/c it will get a lot hotter than plastic, and will heat up the air going into the engine. But not sure, what shuld i do

aslong as the tubs is the same size as the maf, and there is a sealed barrier that keeps engine air away from the filter and lets it suck up cold air from behind the headlight, your gold.

dont get that piece of junk homemade ****, thats so half ***, i got a k&n fipk off ebay for $150. dont short yourself you'll be much happier with a k&n.

Browse the classifieds for used cold air kits. I sold one a while back to a board member. Every now and then you will see one for a good deal. Check Ebay too. Surely used kits pop up there too.

I bought the ebay cold air intake w/the k&n filter and it works great. The fit isnt perfect but it gets the job done, my car dropped a tenth and gained a mph. Just as a warning it is really loud, even at idle you can hear it hissing. I cant imagine how loud it is with a stock exhaust because mine covers a lot of the sound during 1/2 and full throttle.

I think it sounds good. One of my buddies one day heard it sucking through the hood and was like "What is that?!" I told him it was the air intake. He said it must have been takin in a lot of air! (His car was supercharged so he didn't know what a big N/A motor sounded like.)

as i stated in a previous post LPE,K&N,SLP and Moroso has quite a bit more
R&D work than some guy in his garage putting stuff together.if you buy a CAI dont you want it to do its job,the filter location of the EBay set up does not even get cold air due to filter location.but hey if someone gets 1 tenth from a 70.00 part and most get 2-3 tenths for 189.00 what would you do?
if it was me i would spend my 70.00 like this,buy a 30.00 K&N filter(cone roughly 4"body-8"long-3" hole or equal,go to a muffler shop have them bend a 2.5' length of pipe run it down the hole make attatching points on pipe and put the filter on underneath the fender so at the end you have spent
30.00 on filter
10.00max on pipe
20.00 on gas
10.00 on lunch
