Default best cam for a supercharged TA

What type of cam would you guys sugest for a supercharged 1996 TA. I am running 7 psi of intercooled boost.(vortech) I also have headers and no cats. I am looking for a cam that will add some good power and have a nice sound at idle. The more agresive the better. I dont have to worry about emmisons or anything like that.Price dont realy matter and i will change anything i have to in order to make the cam work. So what cam would you guys recomend. The more info the better ..ps. the motor is bone stock.....thanks guys.....

I am using TPIS ZZ9 Cam. Heres the spec on it:

Duration at .050: Intake: 212 Exhaust: 226
Gross Lift: Intake: .483 Exhaust: .520
Lobe Separation: 112
Gross Lift w/1.6 RR: Intake: .516 Exhaust: .554

I am really pleased with it. I dont notice a huge amount of lope at idle but I also have mine idling at almost 1050rpm instead of around 600rpm.

Id go with something a little more radical if you want more power out of the car. Im using a CC 224/236 on a 115lobe 560/560 lift. This is a great cam in my opinion and it has a great sound to it. Its not wild sounding but its noticeable, I still reccommend it though, Im very happy with it

FASTFORMULA..thats a very small intake duration and lift on the cam you are specifying yet it has a huge exhaust duration and lift. i dont think it would be wise for him to "crutch" the exhaust that much when you are using such a small intake lobe, especially if you are going to use a stock intake and TB with a supercharger. www.racenet.net has some custom ground camshafts for supercharged LT1's along with MTI(although i believe MTI might no longer work on LT1's at this point), thunder racing and many others. you might want to give some of those shops a call and see what they think would work best for your application.

I'm happy with my cam motions 214/222 530/540 114.

It drives great and made 549rwhp and 533rwtq on a 357ci motor 9.2-1 compression and 9lbs of boost from a s-trim/aftercooler and 93 octane.

go with a CC305. Works very well as a blower cam, and has 114* LSA which helps when boosting.

I am using a Comp 248/254, .614/.621, 114LSA solid roller camshaft w/24-26psi and eventually a 200-400 shot.

Yet to be determined (no RW dyno here). We are putting together a new shop in Lubbock soon that will feature a Dynojet 248. I'll post numbers as soon as I get them.

Suspension, rearend, and interior work are still ongoing on the car as well . Based on engine dyno numbers, it should see around 950RWHP through the powerglide. But I'll believe it when I see it!

Rob,

I'm running an ATI Procharger F1R at 24-26psi (intercooled/cogged).

Motor (Sunset Racecraft 383 LT1, 8.5:1)
-----
4-Bolt Splayed LT1 Block
Lunati Crank and Rods
JE Pistons (dish -16cc)
Comp Cams Bumpstick (see posts above)
AFR 227cc/76cc Heads (heavily ported and milled by Sunset) w/Ferrea valves (2.100, 1.600)*
Lunati Big Block Springs
Ported Stock Intake (w/custom direct port NOS kit)
Lunati 1.6 Rocker Arms
Custom Fuel Rails (each side fed individually by Aeromotive Eliminator pumps w/regulators) w/160 injectors
Custom Oil Pan and Valve Covers
All controlled by a FAST ECU...plus anything else I forgot (?).

Right now it's an OptiSpark motor, but I may go coil packs if I run into issues later on.

* - I also have a set of 195cc AFR's w/Ferrea valves (2.080, 1.600) that are hogged out pretty good as well.

Looking for some low 8's (hopefully...pretty please) when all is said and done.

i have a 4-bolt LT4 block..lunati crank and rod, and there pistons also, and i have the AFR 227's 2.10, 1.60.....just curious what do your heads flow....mine @.600 flow just under 330cfm and 241, i thought my injectors were big(83pnds).....160pnders are insane, im looking to run some bottom 9sec runs, mabe high 8's if we can find some more power, im only running 18pnds boost right now, looking to up it to 21-21pnds shortley

Rob:

@.600/650, they flowed a little above 345 (I'll have to dig up the flowsheet numbers from Sunset for exacts if you'd like). The 195's flowed just over 300 (intake) @.600.

I calculated that 130# injectors would have worked, but went with 160's in case I wanted to climb up a little closer to 30psi boost. Plus, who makes a 130/140# and 160#'s are cheaper

What cam and do you have?

Your car sounds pretty sweet and impressive. What do your RW dyno numbers look like right now?

8's will be a milestone for me in a late model F-body EFI car. Maybe we can meet up sometime at a national F-Body race event or something.

Sometimes when we order complete Lunati rotating assemblies, we get sent JE Pistons from Lunati if Lunati thinks JE is better for the application.

the cam is verry simular to your grind, its a custom comp grind, do you have any problems with head gaskets at that boost, are you o-ringed or have wire-lock stile gaskets?.....just wondering what to look forward to in the future, I plan on making a trip to texas to run my car some time next year...i havnt had the car on the dyno in a while, im guessing 720-740rwhp with the #'s we are running at alomst 3500pnds

I hope you guys have a big F-body race this next year ill show up, think it would be a blast, im still running a 8-ribbed belt,

Dyno #'s sound about right. As far as head gaskets go, I am running the 1074 gasket and haven't had problems with that gasket. That's not to say that I won't though!! I'm ready to O-ring at any point that I get head gasket leak. My engine builder has run them (wire-style) on his big carbed block cars (632+ cid) at boost pressures in excess of 30psi. We'll see...

Come on down and see us!
