Can you rebuild a lt1 water pump?

do you just need a water pump drive seal
and a water pump bearing seal? the back part with the thing that slides over the gear you can move it slighlty and i heard its time for a new one, but can i just buy the bushings and rebuidl mine? and if so how do you pull the bushing and install new ones, how do you rebuild it?

I do not think you can rebuild an LT1 waterpump. More specifically I do not think anyone offers a kit commerically that can be used to rebuild one

None that I've heard of.

i know they have GM part numbers
12553792 Water pump drive seal
10217886 Water pump bearing seal
isnt that all i would need to rebuild it?

buffman 10-04-2006 01:54 PM

drive seal is the thing that goes into the timing cover. You'd need a lot more to rebuild a water pump.

makes since thats what i was thinking, wounder what all comes with the bearing seal ? iv heard that these can be rebuilt, i just havent found any info other then places claming they have been rebuilt,

buffman 10-04-2006 02:01 PM

they can be rebuilt, but you can't buy the parts for them. You'd need the impeller, and all that BS

im going to look into it to day

If you find the bearing and seal PN post them up.

That said Advance Auto has remanufactured ones for $41 so don't spend too much on the parts. The impeller I would reuse if it looks good.

i posted some part numbers above, i asked around there is no rebuild kit, but what is this bearing seal? i looked around and got a remanufactured water pump for 70 + core exchange, so obesely they are can be rebuilt but how?

that guy has rebuilt a water pump for a friend of mine and is going to rebuild mine, my friend coated his housing in ceramic and im doing the same and the only way to is to take everything apart and getting them rebuilt. I dont know what all is involved but we take our pump apart, coat the housing and send everything to him and about $60 later they are rebuilt. Only way to powdercoat your water pump.
