? regarding 305cid GenII/ Winter 06 Engine Masters mag

pages 29-36, EM did a heads/cam/intake build on a 305, and got 372hp@6100 rpm on an engine dyno, with 350ft/lb of torque at 4500rpm.

I am a genII newb. This was the generation I missed, as sort of an old school GenI guy. It was the GenII coming out that got me motivated to go to college, and by the time I got my student loans under control genIII arrived, I really like my 04 GTO.

But I am thinking about building a track only car 1800-2400#, and I am wondering how much an engine dyno ready 305 would weigh? Are these available with Aluminum blocks? I sort of remember the Gen II was pretty much iron block/aluminum heads, but these are practically free motors at 305cid, esp compared to building up a 231V6 to make those kinds of numbers.

I think the smallest GenIII in Al block is 5.3 liters, but I am a lot more comfortable with Q-jets than I ever hope to become with LS1 edit.

TIA for any and all input.

lt1 are 350 not 305.

A race LS1 can come in at under 350lbs with a aluminum block, the Gen III Iron blocks are VERY heavy.

I think he's asking if you can USE a 305, but that's my interpretation. If that's the case, just go with a GenI and a TPIS LT1 clone intake for TPI cars. Thats assuming you don't want the newer computer setup or OBDII

The only reason one would go for a 305 is if it's rules limited to that. Also then it's much better to go with a 4" bore 3" stroke. The bore 3.74" bore on the 305 limits the cylinder head flow.
