i'm stumped. HELP!

alright this stuff may sound crazy but it's true. This is what my car does. For one it takes about four cranks to start all the time. For two i'll be driving along and the check engine light comes on along with the fans and it runs like it has the biggest cam i ever heard. And the light never comes on when i drive in cold weather only when it it gets say 50 degrees outside. I know i have a leak on my intake manifold and i'm going to fix that soon is there anything else that can be causing this too? Thanks for your help!

How do you have a leak on your Intake? Check the Elbow or the Donkey Dick.

When the SES light comes on that causes the fans to turn on (safety feature built in by GM), the rough running with the SES light is probably 'limp mode' (another feature built in by GM).

change

i have the common leak on the backside of the intake manifold due to that recall gm had on the gaskets. the leak that gets you oil all over the bottom of your trans. so i'm guessing that limp mode comes on probally becasue of that leak?

thats the egr tubes overheating the intake and lifting it,nothing wrong with the gasket

alright i'll just try taking my egr out first. i got an exemption from emissions anyways thanks.

how did you do that? the exemption?

Mike96z Mar 12, 2007 08:27 PM

i removed the egr, never had probs with intake leak, use SILICON

Be in a state that has no emmisions? :D lol Minnesota doesn't anymore.

Limp Mode = dead chip (can a bad ECM trigger limp too?). If it barely drives and doesn't shift gears, its in Limp Mode (at least my 91 wouldn't shift).

Why not see what the SES is on for lol

If it through a SES light -- and you haven't unhooked your battery at all, get the car scanned and find out what the code is. Any local DAP should be able to scan the car for free and tell you what the code is. The Service Engine Light is there for a reason, it can be a helpful tool when trouble shooting.

I have never heard of the intake manifold leak causing a SES light, so I doubt that is the issue.
