Question Question for you LT1 guys....

I feel that I should know the answers to things like this considering all my years of experiance with F-bodies, but one thing I have never owned was a '93-'97 F-car, so this one took me by surprise.

I was looking at some online pics of what is listed as a '94 Z28; the VIN listed a "P" as the 8th digit, so it should be an LT1 car based on that. The body has the proper Z28 badging and appears to have a factory Z28 exhaust, so I truly doubt it's a V6 underneath.

But, this car has a 110mph gage cluster. How was it possibile to option a V8 4th gen with the 110mph speedo?

Yep, if it didn't have the Z-Rated tires it got the smaller speedo. Fun huh?

Wow. Somebody must have been really cheap to buy that car without the Z-rated tires! Why, just why? LOL.

Anyway, then that leads me to two more questions:

1) Does the non-Z rated tires = a manditory 2.73 gear option? (I'd assume yes)

2) What is the factory speed limiter set for on these 110mph speedo cars? Something like 118mph?

Thanks.

Yep, you get hit in the nuts three times if you don't get z rated tires from the factory.
1. 115 mph gauges
2. 105 mph speed limiter
3. 1st gear lock out (AUTO)

Holy ****.

105mph speed limiter? Wow that is gay. The factory speed limiter in my Bonneville is higher than that, and it came with shitty Eagle GA tires. Easy fix with tuning though.

But what about the gears, do all these non Z-rated tire cars come with 2.73s?

I'm not sure if all non z-rated tire cars came with 2.73s. Mine did, so that's one.

Most A4 cars came with 2.73 gears, unless ordered with something different. Most of them I've seen without 2.73 gears had 3.23.

Most M6 cars had 3.42, but have seen a couple with 3.23.

my 94 TA is marked to 155 mph, but the last number is 150 mph, I was told that the peg is at 162 mph. going by the sticker that is normally in the door and was moved to the inside of the lid of the glove box (for some reason) I have 3.23 gears in my A4. I know a guy that has a LS-1 Z28 that he did not get the Z rated tires and his speedo stopped at 120 mph and I think his limiter was 118 mph, all I vividly rember is that he was pissed that he was going thruogh the traps in the 1/4 mi on the limiter every time. so if you want to figure out how the car was ordered, look at the speedo.

Just like everyone has mentioned here, if it wasn't ordered with z-rated tires, it received a 115 mph speedo, had a speed limiter set about 110mph-108mph, all the ones I have seen were 2.73 out back and in 93-94 had the low rise spoiler, and it had a bump stop that does not allow to run first gear if shift down manually, center console doesn't even have "1" marked there....
