Default Under The Axle Td's???

the shop thats doing my car is thinking about running my 3" true duals under the axle. i searched and all i could find is 1 crappy pic. and i didn't really like it. please post pics if you have under the axle true dual exhaust and post your testimonials. it seems like it would make more power because of less bends so thats why im considering it, i just dont want to count it out as a possiblility because of one "Bob's muffler shop" hack job. thanks!

there used to be a guy in tulsa that had duals under the axle. They looked like crap and ended up getting ripped off by our nice Oklahoma roads

I personally think it looks lousy and can inhibit suspension travel...Imho, Although not easy, it looks way better to go over the axle, than under it...I'd like to see side by side dyno testing to see if the bends needed to go over the axle would eat up any hp/tq, though...I run a dumped system now, but we may experiment with running it out the sides behind the doors with custom stainless tips...

I'm running 3" duals under the axle on a lowered car. I only scrape the headers, not the duals. And I actually get people complimenting me on how they look. If you have cheap shop do it it will end up looking like ****, mine don't. And they don't limit suspension travel, I have no idea how you came to that conclusion.

I did this back in the day. I used 2.5" piping though and I used stock Z28 tips so the exhaust looked completely stock until you started and drove the car. I painted the entire exhaust black and you couldn't see it at all on the car and ground clearance wasn't an issue at all with stock ride height. And I live in the Houston area so don't think the roads I drive on are anything special.

The Z I have had under the axle TDs when I got it. They actually looked decent and had Bullets out back where tips would go. That was 2.5" pipe with a 10 bolt. Since I put my 9" under it and had 3" exhaust, I just did TDs to the rear end.

I did it for costs, not for anything else. It's obviously a hell of a lot easier to just go under so there wasn't much labor involved at all. If you go over your just going to pay more cause it'll take the shop alot longer to do the job.

thats what i was thinking. they were trying to do a little cop-out. well its worth it to me to pay a little more for it to be right. the simplist way to do it is not always the best looking i guess.

I plan on using their idea. I already have a custom TD setup with dumped bullets that I made. Im gonna get some Flowmaster 40 series and have a exhaust shop weld them in and carry it under the axle and out the rear of the car.

The pan hard bar has to be relocated to go over the axle, my friends C3 Vette had it set up under the axle, I like over the axle due to possible ground clearance issues

Not true...You only need to get the relocation kit if you're bringing both pipes over on the passenger side...If you bring them each over seperately on each side you're fine..It's not easy because there's fuel lines to move a bit and some heat shielding to use on the driver's side, but the results are way worth it...I'm going to be different and be the test subject for going out the sides just behind the door with custom 2"x4" stainless tips...

A friend of mine has dual 3" over the passenger side and out to a CME on his LS1...looks absolutely killer, terrific clearance, but was not cheap. I'd step up and pay for it done 'right' IMO.
