What oil is in your LT1
#68
Right now I've got Shell 15-40 for break in, my engine builder suggested it so thats what I went with. He also told me that I should go to a 10-40 RP synthetic blend or regular 10-40 if I wanted to at 1K miles or so. Also as far as oil changes he told me to use the 15-40 for the first 2 changes, 1 right after the initial start up and then one at ~200 miles then change to 10-40 synthetic blend or regular GTX (what I'm going with) oil after that and change the oil every ~2500 depending on the driving conditions.
I asked him why he suggested the 15-40 and he just said that he knew how we drove our cars around here, but he builds anything from stock motors to funny car motors, so I'll take his word for it and it seems to be working fine as of right now.

Where can I find Amsoil?
Ive noticed a ticking/rattling in my car since I used Castrol GTX 5w30, but the M1 I used made the car leak more..Any suggestions on what oil for me? H/C car..

I've never run anything but Mobil 1 synthetic. I'm currently running 15w50 due to my extremely low oil pressure.(216000 mile motor) Rebuilding in a few weeks and i'll probably continue to run Mobil 1.

I just changed mine to Royal Purple last weekend (used to use Valvoline 10w30). As far as I know (got the car with 82,700 on it), this is the first time it has had synthetic. One thing I've noticed is the oil pressure is significantly higher. It used to drop pretty low when I would slow down or idle, but now it stays at least half of the overall gauge, and a lot higher when accelerating/cruising.

I use Mobil 1 Extended Performance 15w50 with the high end Purolator filters. I use Amsoil Euro spec in the VW. Royal Purple is marketing. The only true synthetics are Mobil 1, Amsoil, and German Castrol 0w30. Read Bobistheoilguy.com for more info. Oh yeah then you have group 5 oils like Redline but not as widely available as the others.

Wall mart. LOL There hypertech or whatever stuff. Been using it in all my cars, I've had 2 motors with it run through them with about 4k and the bearings are mint. I tryed there walmart full synthetic last time I changed it. 10-40 BTW
It's cheap and it works good for me so I'll keep on using it!
Edit: One of these I'm going to send it in to an oil analyst place after 3k and I'll post up the results.
