whats up with 96's so ive got a 96 z28 a4 and it will scratch 2nd gear everytime, along with my buddies 96 lt1 a4 car that does the same, but ive road in a 95 and 97 lt1s that wont. so i was just wondering if there was something different with the 96's setup or are the just to freak cars among the rest of the lt1 out there. thanks |
Its because it was the year before the 30th anniversary of the Camaro. They put special shift packages in to commemorate it. |
lol...couinsidence(sp) |
maybe your car is lighter or has a hypertech shift firmness tune or maybe thier brakes are hanging up or maybe you have gears or maybe they... i have an 97 a4 that i had spin 3rd with mods below... but i got 1400 dollars crammed into the tranny... |
Mine 97 A4 still scratches pretty good going into second everytime. |
If your comparing speed of a vehicle by 'scratching' gears, then.. I just dont know what to say, haha. Hell my V6 Dakota that runs 18's will chirp 2nd gear every single time I hit it, but it's still a dog. Shift firmness, tire wear, all kinds of differences in different vehicles/trannys/etc. There is a ton of things that could cause it, but more than likely, it's just a coincidence, not a freak car. |
I've gotten my 93 to, and it doesn't have the "Perform Shift" option. It does much more now with my chip in it. |
my 95 will "chirp" slicks in 2nd....does that mean imma super bad ass?? its just a co-wink-e-dink or whatever. the 95 and 97 u rode in maybe were ragged out, or lacked the driver mod. You can make a 89 Ford Tempo chirp the tires if you try hard enough, lol. |
i can make a golf cart chirp the tires... :judge: :jest: :jest: |
like said chirping is a bad way to judge power. Tires can make all the difference when comparing stuff like that. |
prob just the car but i just thought it was weird didnt know if they tried something diff. in 96 or not. |
it's ok... i wish my car was special also... :-( |
Before I put the dr's on mine it would leave 2 10 foot black marks on the road when I would hit second and ocassionaly chirp 3'rd. This is with 3.73's, long tubes, ORY, catback, Madz28 programming, moroso cai ect. Now that I have dr's on the car it will only ocassionaly chirp second. Tires make all the differance in the world. |
My 97 will chirp the tires when it shifts to second.  |
i've got an '04 Tacoma 4cyl 5-speed that will chirp 1st-3rd everytime. My bro's 96z 6-speed will do the same as well. My t/a wont really "scratch" any gear, but it will smoke both vehicles mentioned above. Also remember that some Lt1 cars had 2.73's that really slow them down as well. |
Demon, we're not talking MANUALs. You could chirp the tires on a lawn mower if it had a manual trans -_- I caught a MEANT piece today when I was going to make the on-ramp turn light lol Was doing about 20 and I punched it, dropped into 1st and roached them, hit second and tossed me a bit sideways. WAHOOOOO |
I've got a 96 and on my previous tires it'd kick out bad going into second. Now it spins straight when I go into second. I've had random guys who were import drivers "wtf" when I did a 1-2, haha. My car runs pretty good too. 13.3@103 with intake & cat-back. |
I've gotten a stock ZX3 focus to chirp 3rd, whoppti doooo....... Yeah so I guess the other two cars are just weak. |

My neighbors kid's Power Wheels can chirp 1->2...he should take it to the strip..:drive: |
