Adjusting Ignition Timing

How are you guys adjusting the ignition timing on your LT1's? I'm looking to go with a nitrious set up and would like to avoid going to the shop to have my timing retarded.

You need to do it with tuner software. I use Tuner cats. There is no way to mechanically alter the timing.

Oh yes there is. I got a 6al box and a adj. timing control with the external knob on it. Plugs into the 6al box and you can adj. the timing on the fly. Trust me it works! For my nitrous set up i got a 6al, adj. timing control and a digital window switch. All works great.

You're adjusting the digital box....I'm saying there is no way to mechanically adjust the timing...You can't loosen the bolts on the distributor and physicall rotate it to advance or retard the timing like the old school small blocks. You have to use software on the stock computor - or yes, put an aftermarket ignition with a digital box that you can turn with a knob.

yea, you are right, i just assumed he knew that already.... stupid opti! BUT you can spend $500 on a msd one and be able to retard it + or - 5* or buy all new ing. stuff or reprogram your comp.

Mallory 685 rev limiter, hotter spark, retard, window switch all in one easy to use reasonably priced box.

While we're talking boxes, anyone have any hard info on a capacitive discharge box and it's effect on the GM opti? I've heard off and on through the years that they kill the cap and rotor. I'll post something from the LT1 Edit mailing list in a new thread.

BTW, sorry for the :hijack:
