I'm doing a CC503 cam, PAC 1518 nitride springs, along with Comp's retainers, locks and seats all for about $500 (I already had the 1.6 roller rockers). Engine build will start to take place next week. 360rwhp on stock heads based on what I"ve researched.

I have been enjoying my Hotcam w/stock heads for 4 years with no problems. My dyno #s are in my sig and my best times at the track. There is a lot left in her i know. The S60 slowed me down alittle bit but now i can come out the hole and still drive home.LOL!!!

i got a 94 a4 with a borla cat back, no catalytic converter, cai, and 3.73's. im planning on doing a cam and was looking into the hotcam (till i started reading this thread atleast haha).

i live on oahu (hawaii) and dont have a track. havent ever clocked the car, but am gonna ship it over to maui to run and wanted to get low 13's high 12's out of the thing.

would the lt4 cam do that for me? or do you guys recommend something else? i got some long tubes that will go on it also before i send it over to run..

If you dont want to use a stall go with the HC. Most other cms you are going to have to use one to get the most out of it.

I used them, had no problems. I wouldn't put anything bigger with them.

I did the conversion about 5 years ago and have been pretty happy with it. No major problems and I rev it over 6K frequently. Do I wish I had gone bigger? Sometimes - you can never be satiated. It does sound good though...

I have the hot cam kit, it is a damn decent cam for the money= get some much needed power and keep the drivability. Half the people who knock this cam, have never been in a car with one, and probably don't even have a cammed car to begin with. (sorry to lash out at everyone) I'm just a big fan of it. Truth be told i kept it for a year than went to a gm847 grind, that was a mistake...

I regret it because the car has terrible road manners now, possibly because of the tune. Either way for what I spent on the Hot cam and components:
150 slightly used Hot cam
40 LT4 valve springs direct from GM
80 edelbrock headers

And misc installation expenses (like when I trashed my opti)

Total I spent about 600 including new coil, plugs, wires, asprin... and installed the cam myself. You can run a HC untuned, the 847 that is another story, the things pulls but doesn't like to sit still for very long. I used to have a blast driving to Hampton Beach NH with the Hot cam, the 847 bogs and stalls that unless there's guarenteed to be no traffic I just take the pathfinder

Like i said, for people who want to buy everything in a kit or get it cheap, it might not be a bad choice, but if you do a little research there are much better alternatives and they don't cost substantially more.

I don't really consider myself a "hotcam hater" I mean it is what it is, and a lot of people have used it, I just think you're shooting yourself in the foot when you could have much better performance simply by putting in a little effort to choose good parts and not taking the easiest solution out there.
This coming from a guy whose tuning expertise could not net him better than a 15.2@92 with his 95 Formula...

I ran a Hotcam with some mildly ported heads in my 92 Vette. With no weight reduction, 2.59s, mail order tune and shorties it ran consistent 12.9s@107-110. With 3.73 gears it was trapping 114.2 running pig rich. I have not been a big fan of the cam, but it HAS proven to perform very well over the years despite its age. Good beginner cam.

lol, what's up Jeff, been a while.

The reason that car ran a 15.2 was because it had a stock b-body lt1 in it and it wasn't running well and had a lot of knock. had nothing to do with tuning. Apparently the previous owner wrecked it and replaced the engine with one from an impala. I wasn't aware of that at the time. That was the first time I had ever run the car and I hadn't done anything to it yet.

Did you ever finish your z28?
