Only a little spills out. And I don't know how it is on the ones that connect to the steam pipe, but I couldn't imagine it being so bad where you have to break your arm to reach it. My friends 94 Vette I think has the steam pipe setup and we did his no prob.

I cut it off and blended it with the Dremel. Cleaned it right up.

Its not the arm I'm thinking - it's the fingers. The alt brackets bolt right there - plus a couple of other hoses - just to make things interesting..
Seems that whatever you need to get to is always "down there". How can nothing be on top??

The hose that goes threw the passenger side can be a pain. But for what little it cost its worth doing.

I did it on my 95 recently. No parts were needed.
I didn't lose any more than a few drops of coolant.
Just make sure the car is totally cool when you do it!

Well, mine has a long hose, so I was able to just quickly hold it higher than the radiator, thus preventing coolant loss.

And yes, by all means PLEASE do it when it's cool

Ok all done guys, took me about 15 min but yah that lower one was a bitch, i would recommend doing what i did witch was remove the Throttle postion sensor, its a P shaped thing on the passenger side of the TB and can be remove by 2 torqe bend screws. Romove that and then get neddle nose pliers and clamp the hose clamp down and grab another set of pliers and wiggle the hose out off there. Thats what i did, wasent hard but i did do it with the car hot and all so i would not do it hot agine.

I agree - in retrospect remove the TPS. I did this last night too - man that 90 degree bend to the steampipe is a pain to get to. The hose clamps were installed upside down. I finally just used a dremmel to cut them off - all the time in fear of slipping and cutting sensor wires. And then, of course 96K miles had welded the hose to the nipples.

I also got a good amount of coolant. I would say at least a couple of shot glasses (my official measurment) . Plenty to make a mess.

I've always been told the coolant going through the t-body was designed to cool the t-body and air, but completely worked opposite of the design and heated it because of the hot water. Either way you look at, the water heats the t-body and creating a bypass allows the t-body to stay cooler, thus creating the cooler, denser air. I chose a bit of a cleaner route... I removed the hose going from the radiator to the pump, took it to the local parts store and found a match with the same bend w/o the extra "y-piece" of hose coming off of it. this got rid of that whole bypass issue. removed the hose on the other side of the t-body completely as well. then, capped off all neccessary ports. came out a bit cleaner and only cost a few bucks more.
