I don't know where to ask this question... I have a 2001 trans am and was able to get all the vehicle codes from the dealership no problem. My question is this. My friend has a 1995 Z28 and he wasn't really interested in getting the codes for his car when the dealership told him his car was too old and it wasn't in their computer any more. Then we put kooks long tube headers on his car and realized his heads were aluminum! Now I want the codes! I'm sure he does too. How can we get them read? Any help? |
All LT1's had aluminum heads... What codes are you refering to? SES codes? Option codes? |
all LT1 motors had iron blocks and aluminum heads. all LS1 style motors have aluminum blocks and heads. |
Oh my bad, I tought LT1's nad iron heads. I'm talking about the 80+ build codes on the drivers door. |

this is the internet, someone has to know these codes somewhere, that is, if you still want them... |
If I am not mistaken, RPO codes can be found in the glove compartment for LT1 f-bodies. |
Not all LT1 engines had aluminum heads. The 260 HP power plants for the B/D Body cars had iron heads. F/Y Body cars had aluminum heads. |
I just think he would like to know what all the codes are. I decoded all the codes for my 01 T/A and found out alot of interesting stuff. Same goes for my '88 IROC-Z, like the color interior name and that the Borg warner rearend on my IROC has 2.77:1 gears in the rear. Just stuff like that. We just like to be able to know that stuff. Just curious really. Makes it easier if ever some stock parts have to be hunted down. |
All LT1s in the f-bodys and vettes had aluminum heads, but the LT1 B-bodys (Impala SS, Caprice, Roadmaster and Fleetwood) had an iron headed version. |
You guys seem like your on the subject, so I'll ask. This guy I know who supposedly knows his chevys said the camaro's had 3 different versions of the ls1. It was an option to upgrade to stage 2 or stage 3. The argument started when I was talking about the LS1 being aluminum block and the LT1's are cast iron blocks. So he was saying it's an option to have a LS1 aluminum block on 98-02 camaro's. I told him all LS1's are aluminum. Never have I ever heard someone say, "which version LS1 do you have?" I know they changed minor things after 1998 like different cam. Am I right on basically one style LS1? :hijack: |

Good. I don't know what the hell he was thinking. Trying to tell ME about f-bodies! Pshhh |
This whole conversion has gone in a different direction then what I was hoping. I am still looking for a way to decode the LT1 cars. Can anyone help? |

Pls if any one has some good ideas Thanaks For the OP's question, look in the glove box for the RPO sticker, take a picture of that sticker, google "chevy RPO codes" and start reading what each code means. You are not going to find out anything special. If its an automatic all you will really find is if its a 3.23 gear car or a 2.73 gear car, other than that if its an M6 it will be GU6 for 3.42 gears. It has the only LT1 you could get in an F body being the 2 bolt main block, aluminum heads. Other than that its just paint codes, hard top vs T top, interior options, nothing special. |

You need to start your own thread in the stereo section. For the OP's question.... |
Fuck. |
Bizarre for sure...someone throwing in an unrelated question on a very old thread. |
