I've got the LT1 squeaky brake My rear brakes squeal terribly when I turn left. I've heard rumors that this was common on early LT1 cars with rear disc brakes. Supposedly there was a TSB from GM about it. Does anyone have any more info on it? Does anyone know the part # for the brake bracket shims from GM? Can I just use a thin washer instead? How thick does it have to be? |
are you sure your brakes aren't going out man... |

All my brakes have full pad life left in them. THe right inner rotor surface has a deep score mark from rubbing the caliper bracket. I was told that this was a common problem on the early disc brakes. Nobody knows what I'm talking about? |
Thats weird bc after I installed my 9" I had an ear piercing sound coming from the wheel area. never found anything rubbing but sounded like a light metal to metal sound just amplified. If you find out post up what it was |
The back rotors are prone to warping. |
Have you changed your suspension recently? |
Yes there is a TSB from GM about the rear calliper shim...Part no. 12471185 GM list 10.18 ea. If it is just sqeaky pads try the ceramic pads...this should take care of the problem...as well as keep the dust off the wheels. |
Forget the $10 GM ripoff - I got this after I did my rotors. Go to an autoparts store and pick up some body shims for the caliper - I think 1/32" did the trick for me. |

Thats what I wanted to know. Thanks man. Is there anything more specific I should ask for besides, "body shims"? |
Nope. That's what they are - they come on a card with assorted sizes. You can find 'em in the section with all the "Help" stuff. |
