Help I dont know Whats wrong!

When im on the highway going 70 or 80 and let off my car starts to backfire real bad and if I get back into it will hesitate, and it bogs a little it even sounds like it gurgles when backfiring.Theres times it falls on its face when I let off it almost feels like my fuel comes and goes.Could someone help me and tell me what it could be.

When is the last time you changed the fuel filter and checked the pump? Its hard to tell with such little information but it sounds like you may have a fuel delivery issue.

o2ws8 09-01-2007 12:51 AM

I changed the fuel filter like 5/6 months ago but even when I changed it still did it.Do you think that it might be my injectors?I have longtubes and borla thats it on mods. And its only at a certain speed.

ZONES89RS 09-01-2007 12:53 AM

Fuel pump could be on its way out, check pressure.

Formula350 09-01-2007 12:53 AM

Fuel filters can go bad again with just one tanke of bad gas. Run some seafoam through it if you think it's the injectors.

o2ws8 09-01-2007 01:02 AM

Thats what I will try but isnt the fuel pump suppose to whine when its going out!No codes pop up and the last time it did it said egr malfunction.

ZONES89RS 09-01-2007 01:07 AM

No, the pump whines when it is working, they have been known to get weak, but i think you should maybe hear lean pops if it was that bad, or it will just quit running all together.

o2ws8 09-01-2007 01:11 AM

Ive had a fuel pump go out and this aint acting like its going out Ive raced and it will go just fine. Its only when im on the highway and going about 80 and let off it will pop alittle and then it starts to gurgle its sounds weird.

ZONES89RS 09-01-2007 01:16 AM

Hmmm...sounds like a delay of the injectors leaning out, clean the idle air, MAF and seafoam it.

o2ws8 09-01-2007 01:26 AM

Whats the idle air?sorry

ZONES89RS 09-01-2007 01:33 AM

It plugs into the throttle body, it can collect build up of carbon, use carb cleaner, it will take care of it and the mass air.

o2ws8 09-01-2007 01:35 AM

Thanks I will try that and see what happens I appreciate your help!

ZONES89RS 09-01-2007 01:39 AM

No problem, good to have a site with so many people to help and help me when i need it.

Do you still have EGR and AIR? The EGR could be stuck open since you had a code once. And AIR is supposed to shut off on decel... otherwise it will send oxygen to the cat and create combustion inside the exhaust :eek2: Just some more ideas...

o2ws8 09-01-2007 01:58 AM

Yes I do still have egr and air!How can I check and see if its open or what can I do?

Formula350 09-01-2007 02:41 AM

You can remove it and tune it out, but I assume you have emissions checks. Which that will fork with them and probably cause you not to pass.

Ralls 09-01-2007 02:53 AM

I'm actually not sure how to check AIR. You'd probably notice this, but make sure the rubber hose going to the diverter valve on the header isn't burnt up. That would mean the valve (one way check valve) has failed.
As for the EGR, unbolt the two bolts holding it onto the back of the intake and clean it up. Carbon builds up and blocks the hole. You can monitor that stuff with a scan tool while your cursing down the road.

o2ws8 09-01-2007 03:01 AM

If it is my egr and air should I just go ahead and get a street tune and get that deleted!Emissions wise I have a friend that works at chevy dealer and he passes it for me.

Ralls 09-01-2007 03:21 AM

I'm not 100% it's the AIR or EGR unless they're tested.. so these are just ideas. But it wouldn't be a bad idea if you can run without them where you live. Also if you take it off, you can drive and see if it is it before you get a tune. All the tune does is keep the code from setting.

Schweet97Z 09-01-2007 03:58 AM

when my egr went out it gave real hard bucks but it was at lower rpms. however it didnt missfire or pop and wasnt hesitant. every car is different, so its worth a shot to check, and check it by unplugging the vaccum line in the egr and plug it. if it stops bucking then thats the issue, either replace the valve or delete it. id get rid of all the emissions if you can. also dont rule out that fuel pump. make sure you check the pressure, hell and even then it could be weak. ive seen pumps make the right amount of pressure at prime but wouldnt be able to keep up with a constant feed to the engine while running. we double checked and triple checked everything, and finally decided to change the pump, and sure enough thats what it was. im not a fan of any top engine cleaner, such as seafoam or gm top engine cleaner, but thats totally your call.
