1.6RR????'s
hello,
now i've heard of the comp cam nsa rr's being louder than stock valvetrain...i just finished my cam install and at first i thought maybe the it need to be oiled up but it continues to be loud...is it normal..if so are they another brand of 1.6 nsa rr's that don't make that much noise
thank you

That does not sound good at all. Seems like the polylocks arent locking and they backed off...to make that much noise they are probably bouncing off of the valve stem.
Are they stock length pushrods? The pushrods may be too short for the guideplates and rocker setup and the play might be there.

I'm in the same boat with NSA Scorpions. I posted up a thread yesterday about it and the consensus seems to be that aluminum RR's are louder than steel. However, that makes the Pro Mags the quieter of the bunch. I took a short 5-6 mile drive and they didn't quieten down. I'm like you, I thought once they had oiled they would be quieter. I pulled the driver valve cover after the drive and everything looked fine. If I had messed up the preload on some of them, I am pretty sure I would have some loose ones but not the case. Everything was nice and tight. I did the #1 and #6 TDC method, turning 1/8th past 0 lash and setting the lock on Comp OE lifters. If I had them too tight, they wouldn't chatter I don't think and I know if they were too loose I would get this sound but they're not loose. If you find something out, I wanna know.

kind of hard to get the timing messed up unless the cam wasn't installed right.
IMO you should set the preload with the engine running. You can go up to 3/4 Turn preload on stock lifters. I run 1/4 turn on stock lifters with pro mags and they're whisper quiet. What Oil are you guys running.

I'm using Mobil 1 15w-50 Extended Performance. I talked to a buddy of mine and his dad is old school gearhead and I told him what was up and he said he'd help me go back over them. I don't think that's necessarily the problem but it's gotta be coming from somewhere right???

dh I set the preload on my pro mags up with engine running. I will loosen the poly lock till it starts clacking. Then usually with a nitrile glove on or just barehands (Callouses come in handy ) I will tighten the poly lock. usually when you feel it slightly bottom out there is zero lash. You can feel it, a lot easier than using a big clunkly wrench. I then get the wrench, hold the poly lock and tighten the set screw.
