New LT1 engine needed soon. Need combo's, info, ideas
Ok, due to having 130,000 and starting to see a drops of oil under the car each day, i figure its going to need a new engine soon.
Whats the best approach to this. My first idea is to find a cheap lt1 somewhere and build it up so when its finished i can swap engines out.
Not sure what route i want to go, would like a 11 second, maybe 10 second on spray car. (a suspension build is also in the plans too to help out with this goal)
Not really familiar with LT1s, but the stroker engines sound pretty cool, a 396 would be cool for bragging rights, but i'm sure pretty expensive.
Money is a factor here, i dont mind spending some change, but dont want to get too much wrapped up in it.
So whats the best route to go for this, 355, 383, 396? Where's the best place to find the kits, whats a good cam, heads and supporting parts to use for a solid combo?

Im doing a budget build myself, I think a 4-bolt main 355 with some good heads and a matching cam with a 150-200 shot would be a low 11 or high 10 sec car with supporting suspension mods.
I got lucky with my block and ended up with a 4-bolt. I recently purchased some SRP forged 11:1 pistons and some light weight eagle I-beams along with rings and bearings for just over $700 bucks with a racers discount from Jegs. My block was already .030 over so all i had to was get it vatted honed and balanced. It can be done for a fairly decent price if you choose parts carfully and don't just throw together some parts for a combo that will not work properly.
PM me if you want some more info on on where to get parts for an awsome price.

We have some really good sponsors on this site. Look at www.PortPros.com for your build. They can not only supply you with some sweet heads, they can also build your short block as well as custom grind you a cam. I suggest a 383 with stage II or III heads with custom grind cam. Good luck.
