Need ur help on this weird vibration issue !!
 

It's an M6 96 SS. Here's the vibration issue describtion:

If the car is moving IN GEAR OR NOT and you press the clutch pedal and push the gas, you feel vibration in the shifter.

If the car is completely stopped and you press the clutch pedal and push the gas, you WON'T feel a vibration.

If the car is moving in neutral and you push the gas WITHOUT pressing the clutch pedal, there's NO vibration.

If the car is in neutral and you press the clutch and the gas, you'll feel vibration in the shifter.

Bottom line: Vibration accures ONLY when the CLUTCH pedal is PRESSED - CAR is MOVING and the GAS pedal is PRESSED (Tranny in gear or in neutral). what's up with that?

Note: I just bought the car (Project car) and was told it has a centerforce clutch and 4:10 gears.

Every comment/help will be greatly appreciated.

Check your tranny mount.

Tranny mount wouldn't cause this kind of vibration, the tranny would move up and down when you hit a hole on the road if the tranny mount is torn or bad, but wouldn't cause this type of vibration. That vibration I'm having gets worse the higher the rpm goes (The more you press the gas when the clutch pedal is pressed). Thanks for trying to help though, I first thought the tranny is going bad but when I found out it happens also when it's NOT in gear I started suspecting other stuff, it's a weird vibration unlike the one you get when the driveshaft isn't balanced for example, you feel this vibration in the shifter rather than in the whole car.

do you have a shortthrow shifter in there?

I think it is, not sure if the 96 SLP SS cars came with a short throw shifter, I can check into that but can you tell me what made you ask this question? Do you think the shifter is bad?

No, but i have a short throw shifter in my car... and the linkage rubs against the bottom of the shifter giving me that vibration noise you are feeling. it sounds like metal clattering right?

yeah kinda. I have a different shifter, do you think I should replace it and try or that has nothing to do with it?

i've had the same problem with another one of my cars before, turned out to be a throwout bearing. If it was in gear with clutch in, rev it, vibration, if it was in neutral clutch in rev it, vibration, put it in neutral, release clutch, rev it, all is well. Crank the car, put it in neutral, release clutch, and see if it's making a lot of noise with the clutch released, then press it back in and see if it goes away. I don't know why a TOB would cause it, but i surely replaced it and it went away.

what I would do, is take out the shifter and look at the plate that the shifter bolts onto the trans. see if u see markings of rubbing from the linkage.

it could be a TOB, but a shifter is a lot easier thing to check :)

maybe the clutch isnt fully disengaging. ive heard of this problem if there is air in the hydraulic lines

A bad TOB also causes this...

That makes sense, I'm gonna have to get a case of beer to check the TOB I guess, it's a good two hour work to get to it.

yeah that's about right if it's ur first time. I'm able to drop my tranny in less than an hour now. I've had to do it a few times.........

the shifter i have is an slp shifter with a 6.5" stick, its all metal to metal so theres alot of vibration in the shifter. see if yours is metal to metal or something similar.

I'll check into that as well, but if it does it only when the clutch pedal is pressed I think that all signs lead to the TOB..

No offense bud, but if you can take it out in one hour you're something else, I've done about 10 times so far (In three different camaros that I had) so it's not my first time, only the driveshaft/wiring/cross member/clutch slave/torque arm/exhaust(Cat) bracket/shifter will take an hour BEFORE you get to the T56-Bellhousing bolts, unless your car is lifted high enough to simply walk underneath it and work :), if you can take a T56 in one hour when the camaro is on floor jacks YOU must be something else bro :). Placing the trany jack underneath when it's on floor jacks and pulling it out of there and from underneath the car takes about 15-20 minutes :), am I too slow or what guys?? Seriously, let me know :)

Moving = Driveline, post engine; driveshaft, wheels & tires
Gas pressed = Motor and or Trans mount(s)
Clutch only = worn trans bushing

My issue (which was not 100% similar to yours) was fixed with a new trans mount.
