weight vs power difference between CB to TD's

is 2.5" true duals w/ a X pipe over the axle with sweet thunders worth the weight and power over a Hooker Aerochamber catback??

thanks so much...

the car with done with be a 355 mild H/C

Z28_DAD Oct 30, 2007 07:12 PM

its worth it in sound alone, but it does weigh more, but it also makes more power.
sorry no numbers though

My Magnaflow cat-back and pacesetter y weighed almost 50lbs on the nose. I switched to 2 Hooker straight-through mufflers with a 6" pipe between them and the header dumped under the floorboards, saved about 26 lbs total. I would imagine an x-pipe and 2 pipes over the axle would probably add about 10-15lbs easy over a single cat-back system.

A dumped setup wouldn't be unbearable with a mild H/C car. It may be impossible due to inspection or something, but it would sound amazing while staying light.

i went from 340rwhp on a y pipe setup, to 364rwhp with 3" true duals on my single cam setup. definetly go with true duals. the sound alone will convince you :)

I love my duals but i'm ready for tailpipes.

I loved my dumps, I never minded them but you do have to watch were you go WOT at

maybe 3" duals custom done over the axle and out the back. I hope that standard aluminum will not weigh as much as SS. which most good CB's are anyway.

You dont need 3inch dauls

2.5 dauls are like a mufflerX 4inch exhaust almost, they flow alot and are alot better than a Y pipe setup..

Trust me if you can go dauls!

And I had good ground clearance with mind!

I suggest going with a X pipe for velicity, im not a fan of the H

i got heads and cam.. right now im running LT's ORY and borla (no plate) so straight basically.. will it be louder then that?? I kinda like my tips thats the only thing and cops like to notice them to considering my car is so loud.. haha i got a muffler bitch!

But more power is always good

What kind of y-pipe setup were you running? What I mean is, what kind of catback were you using?

seadoo Oct 31, 2007 10:35 PM

I guess I will go custom 2.5 inch duals running in the same location as a catback and go over the axle. I may need a panhard rod relocation bracket because I am going to be running strano springs.

i'll be running 3" dual system. I don't see the need to go from 3" collector and reduce the size especially since I'll be heavily modded in the future

Do you mean aluminum or aluminized pipes? If full aluminum could be used i'm sure it would be lighter with dual than a catback. Where can you get aluminum tubing? Why isn't it used more often?.

did you run the 3" duals out back?

transamws6_97 Nov 1, 2007 08:05 PM

i'll be installing it in the next few months but i'm gonna start out dumped and if thats too loud for me then ill save up a lil extra and get it taken out the back

seadoo Nov 1, 2007 08:15 PM

the bad thing is I am going to be lowered on strano springs.
