are lca's what i'm looking for?..

hey guys, i'm trying to think of my next set of mods. i know i'm getting exhaust, and i'm not sure what else but after that i'm on about a $500 budget with this check. i was thinking drag radials, but to be honest i don't want to bust my own hustle. most other guys on drag radials from around here have pretty quick cars and most people that see dr's won't race when they have street tires. my traction isn't too bad.. i'm on 315's and if i half-throttle it to about 3500rpm i don't really spin bad (on the street) and i can get away with it. so i was thinking about investing in some lower control arms and maybe i could grab a little better on the street. do i have the right idea? thanks.

sub frame connectors, rear lca's, and a torque arm if you can swing it.

those were the first things I ever did to my car, it responded well. i could at least use what power i had :)

All three will help. But if you have the money, get a chassis mounted adjustable TA first. It will definately help you plant the tires. Have you taken off your front sway bar?

i put LCAs and BMR sfc on first and my car spins worse. i feel the tq arm will definately cure the problem, wish i had done it first.

what does taking the front sway bar off do anyway?

It helps with weight transfer to the rear during launching.

Removing it can compromise cornering ability though.

i guess it would be something to try when i go to the track again

relocation brackets will do good for you. they will help you out more than just lca most likely

Yes! The relocation brackets for the rear LCAs are cheap and very effective. Next is removing the front sway-bar at no cost, just a few minutes of work. Then a quality adjustable torque-arm w/ floor pan mount (get it off the tranny tail-housing). To complete the package would be some front 90/10 coil-overs.

I'm running 1.48 60fts with those items.

I would do LCA's. LCA's and subframes were two of my first mods to the old Bird.

gosh you guys are making me wanna splurge, lol. ok so now i'm thinking lca's and torque arm. and yes my front sway bar has already been deleted. is the torque arm gona be a bitch to put in?

transamws6_97 Dec 26, 2007 06:27 PM

dont forget the relocation brackets theyre only 60 bucks...and just as much improvement in traction as lca

fbodyfreek Dec 26, 2007 06:28 PM

oh.. and i was looking at the umi adj. torque arm and the tunnel brace design is the same as the floor pan right? (stupid question i know, but never hurts to double-check when you spend $400 on a part, haha) thanks guys. you're helping me get an idea of my setup. i'm thinking exhaust, lca, torque arm, sub frame, higher stall, and then a trans brake. i guess i should have a nasty sixty-foot for an intake/exhaust car, lol.

sure thing transamws6 97!

Relocation brackets change the instant center point of the vehicle by lowering the rear of the control arm. On a lowered vehicle they correct the control arm angle which helps to correct traction once the vehicle has been lowered. On a NON-lowered vehicle they work as a anti-squat set-up and force the rear end into the ground for improved traction. Relocation brackets are a very inexpensive traction device and work very well.

check out BMR's site they have the adjustable mount available for torque arm if you can't get a cross bar welded, and it is adjustable like the Madman T.arm is.
not hard to install all of this stuff.

and I apologize, i did the torque arm at the same time as well. hence great sixty foots in a verly lightly modded car at the time.

haha, it's cool. that's just proof that it can be done. i look forward to completing this next phase of the project.

that is an old school trick, or "free mod", just becareful if you do it on the streets, you could wrap your ride around a pole

these are all very good ideas if you have the $$$ and get the right part for your applaction, so that means that when I have more $$$ I will do the same
