I diddnt know headers F***** up Lt1's this much

So its day 2 of my install of pacesetter headers and ORY, everything drives perfectly fine until the car warms fully up.

Then it idles like a cammed car, and it bogs when trying to accelerate and surges power.

I couldn't get it up to 50 under normal acceleration. There is no SES light coming on either. very hard to keep a constant speed with the sparatic power

it idles real low like its about to stall out almost sounds like shit.

rev it up in neutral and everything is fine.

I dont think it could be the opti or plugs because it is only happening when warm and because there is no ses light then that leads me to believe that my O2's are fine?

before all of this everything was fine, I dont understand what happened?

Check your plug wires. I installed the same setup on my brother 95 z28 and the plug wires tend to touch the headers, causing them to melt and ground out. Car ran like absolute crap. My money says that the same thing happened to you.

oifish Jan 3, 2008 01:30 PM

alright ill peek under there. Which wire was it for you?

BLACKSHARK Jan 3, 2008 01:32 PM

the one thats touching the header

oifish Jan 3, 2008 01:35 PM

ha ok ok, I already caught one that was touching on the passenger side so hopefully there is another one so it will be a simple fix

Glen Koenig Jan 3, 2008 01:43 PM

You should also make sure you didn't cut or pinch a wire. The O2's are wired in series with other sensors and if you pinched a ground reference wire for the PCM, then it could cause all sorts of odd behavior.

Look around and make sure you don't have anything else to close to the headers and y-pipe. I wrapped my fuel lines with the heat reflective tape were the y-pipe was close. Also there might be some wire looms that could be pulled back and zip tied. Look around and make sure everything is good to go.

just wait till its dark out start ur car and pop ur hood ull no pretty quick if u torched a wire

The o2s in my car (also 94) were completely dead and I had no ses light. it can happen

it also sounds like you could have torched a plug wire it can be tricky to run the wires in the stock location on the passenger side

yup i had the same problem with mine a new set of O2 sensors did the trick and do yourself a favor and get some ACDelco's or some Delphi's they are cheaper than the crappy bosch sensors and work better (atleast in my car)

agree happened to a freind he burned the o2 sensor wire going from the wiring harness. had stupid problems untill he fixed it

jasonp31 Jan 3, 2008 02:42 PM

If the car runs fine cold, its not wires or plugs. Check O2's.

Sgt. Spuds Jan 3, 2008 02:44 PM

Yea 02's are my guess

oifish Jan 3, 2008 02:45 PM

Ok I looked under there to the best of my ability and did not see any torched wires, but wouldnt that be giving me a problem even when the car is cold? also I have the same O2 sensors in there from before.

when it gets dark out I will look for any burnt wires.. what should I look for since I have never done this before?

also one mechanic told me that my car might be running lean, which I call bs because its on the stock tune, but who knows.

oifish Jan 3, 2008 02:52 PM

so I just called autozone and they only sell the Bosch ones, the salesperson there said that there are 3 total sensors 2 before the cat and one after. I thought that there was only 2?

I think im more confused than frustrated

taner Jan 3, 2008 03:09 PM

only 2 sensors on a 94.

RickyMartinZ28 Jan 3, 2008 03:12 PM

Don't the headers need to heat cycle before you can install the O2s? I've heard this alot with the coated headers. How does it even run with the O2s out of it when doing this cycle?

thats what I thought, now the problem is I can only find Bosch ones around here and the only place that sells delco ones are a dealer and there like 88 bucks compared to 56 at other places

are Bosch ones that bad or can I just save 60 bucks?

are you saying I should just unplug the o2's and see what happens? I guess that would narrow the problem down

A 94 has two. And as mentioned, buy the AC/DELCOs. Are the headers coated? Some claim there is something in the coating that burns off the first few days of driving and can mess up the sensors. Don't know of it's true or not, but I put some new AC/DELCOs in after a week, right before I took it in for the dyno tune.
And for the guy that mentioned if it runs fine cold it's not the plug wire, I have seen otherwise. A wire that was burnt through and only touched the header when the car was at speed.
