Exclamation Mother Of All Clutch Posts...plus a Mcleod clutch giveaway!!!

First thing is first, just toasted a fresh STOCK clutch running 12.60s. in 2 passes. Car had a Mcleod single that lasted about 10k with all street time, and some nitrous though it. 175shot, 550hp style.

So whats the best clutch for certain people. From what I can see so far, is that the Mcleod single is THE BEST street clutch regardless of hp up to 550hp, and the street twin is THE BEST clutch period.

main focus is COST vs PERFORMANCE vs DURABILITY

Here are the classes, fill in where you fit, give as much info as you want for your class including cost, 1/4mile time, and how long its lasted. I will start with mine in the 350+hp class.

NOTE: at 350+hp you will need something better than stock if you ever take your car to the track. PERIOD. EVEN ONCE.

300+hp street
300+hp street/strip
300+hp strip

350+hp street 386hp stock clutch held nittos fine.
350+hp street/strip 386hp Mcleod single with 10k slipped. stock got fried 1k
350+hp strip

400+hp street
400+hp street/strip
400+hp strip

450+hp street
450+hp street/strip
450+hp strip

500hp street
500hp street/strip
500hp strip

550+hp street
550+hp street/strip

600hp+ we all know to go street twin or better.

CLUTCH GIVEAWAY
The winner of the most clutches used by one person, will win my Mcleod single autographed by me, thats toast + missing a spring. shipped to his door. if the thread makes 3+pages........

Should've seen the clutch my friend's diesel chewed up. Sheered EVERY rivet off the spline part where it meets the sheet metal that has the clutch pieces. Was supposedly good up to like 800ft/lbs. At any rate it came out in 2 pieces heh So he took some short grade 8 bolts and nuts and bolted it back together, then welded the nuts on the bolt and ground it down. Then he smoked the transmission lol It's pretty sad too since it's just a 90 Cummins with a bigger turbo, fuel injection pump cranked up more and a K&N. It's not even the intercooled model >_>

Well I'm on my third clutch. The stocker came out at 125k or so. A Centerforce DF was installed, that lasted about 20-25k. Not very long for the money spent on that if you ask me. Now there is a Hays street/strip in there, probably going to be replaced with something else when the new engine goes in as I'm going to be spraying it.

So I'm interested in what people recommend running for 550+ street/strip, as I should make about 550ish rwhp on the bottle.

I put in a CF Dual Friction in 2001. Has countless 13.60 passes on street tires w/ 300 rwhp. Recently made 4 mid 12 second passes on slicks without slipping. Has a total of about 45K street and track miles. Who knows how much longer it'll last!

I went through 1 stock, 2 slp's, and 1 mcleod single disc. Within 25,000 miles. 320rwhp, 12.60's, strip/street. I never actually toasted them, as soon as I felt them slip they were replaced.

killed the stock years ago. then I put a ram HD in, killed that in a couple of months. now I have a center force DF, been holding up pretty good for about a year and 1/2 now.

havent driven it with the new motor yet (long story). so this is back in the bolt on days.

300+hp street ~330 rwhp have driven the freakin crap out of it. and still holding.

SLP clutch assembly (stock LT1 disc with LT4 pressure plate). lasted ~5000 miles before it was removed and sold (wasnt slipping at all). the car made 383rwhp and ran drag radials on the street.

I thought the mcloeud twin disk is the only really true twin disk. (because of the pressure plate)

Stock replacement clutch in it now. I took it to the track and slipped from the first run. Does fine on the street but I have a powergrip going in soon.

If your really going to be beating on it with a slick, your going to want a twin disk, or a heavy clutch to take the abuse

I SERIOUSLY smoked my stock clutch trying to do a 3rd gear burnout at the dragstrip 5 years ago. Still the same factory installed clutch from 1994. Still have it. 100's of passes since. Still hooks like new. 350 rwhp 1.7 60 foots.

im eager to see what the 350-550+ strip only guys are using.

took mine out today and didnt slip in 5th or 6th but I can tell the clutch is very close to being done after 1200 miles and 2 passes.

be sure to put what class you are in.

Taner where are you you have this covered. But I really don't think he wants you clutch as a prize. He has his own the one that came thru the bellhousing and floor just recently it was a Mecloud Street Twin that has seen it's share of abuse. LOL
