Pro's and con's of deleting AIR/EGR
What exactly are the advantages and disadvantages of deleting AIR and EGR? Wouldnt it be more reliable to keep the AIR and EGR? EGR keeps the intake temperatures lower right?

Deleting the AIR gets rid of a ton of **** in the engine bay and looks cleaner, makes it easier to work on things etc.
There's not really any reliability gains from keeping either I don't think. Some people think keeping the egr is better on a stock motor because it was designed that way, not sure if that really is the case though. Plenty of people have deleted it and had no problems.
And no it doesn't keep the intake temperatures lower, it actually raises them because it mixes the hot exhaust gases with the cooler intake air.

The only time the AIR system operates is on start-up to light off the cats quicker, so it's not like you're going to miss it. It gets rid of that big hunk of **** on the front of the motor and who doesn't love that?

+1 for removing both, as long as you reprogram the pcm (yes u have to) you won't have any driveability problems with it, your will have tons of extra space. I had mine done, and passed TX emmissions with no problems.

The EGR system is supposed to help with detonation in the cylinders too.
Research shows that when exhaust gas is dumped back into the cylinder, it dilutes the combustion mixture. (displaces oxygen) This results in a lower cylinder temperature. To look at it another way, dumping exhaust gas into the cylinder is affectively retarding your ignition = less cylinder temperature.
Just some food for thought.

For you technical people, this is a great article on EGR function and how it affects combustion.

I would have to agree that deleting the egr might increase the chances for kr or detonation. Stock tune and stock motors should keep the egr! If you tune the car With out it, then I see no problems. As for the A.I.R, it's bullshit. All it is just a electric air pump that pumps fresh air into the exhaust in open loop to pass emissions. I would remove it, unless you live in CA or somewhere that has strict emissions laws.

You do realize that the article was written for diesel engines not gas don't you?????
