Default Putting a new opti in. Someone help out.

I am going to be installing a opti spark here very soon. I am going to be replacing the opti, gaskets, waterpump, thermostat, fluids. What all needs to be removed for the installation? Any tips or advice to make it go quicker? It is a 96 vented opti I believe.

Also, In jegs and summit they have the opti and then they have the cap and rotor kit. Which do I need? Can someone hook me up w. a link for the right one. Thanks alot!!

h2o pump of course and the damper will make it easy. I assume its an f-body so the egr pump well have to come off as well. As far as the cap and rotor or the entire thing its up to you. Dose it run good now, then just the cap and rotor, if you having problems then replace the whole thing

Get a complete opti from GM.. or get the Accel or MSD unit. Depends on your budget.. I did the cap and rotor recently for the first time and punched it all through in under 4 hours. PM me if you have a question

remove the belt as well. it makes getting that one water pump bolt behind the ac pulley (i think thats what it is) a lot easier.

Whatever you do, don't buy an Accel.

Why are you replacing your opti. Is there something wrong with the one on your car now?

Yeah, the opti is done. It surges real hard and will backfire. I recently replaced o2's. What all needs to be removed?

As far as whether to do that cap and rotor or replace the whole thing, you won't know until you get in there. If I can afford it, I replace the whole unit while I'm in there but you don't have to if it's still good. If you can live without the car (if you have another one to drive while waiting for parts) pull it apart and see what you need, then order it. Otherwise, order the cap and rotor in hope that the rest of the unit is fine. Don't just order the whole thing unless you have the money and would rather make sure you have what you need and/or want the peace of mind knowing the whole thing was replaced.

I have everything jegs and summit offer, and I can beat their prices for you.

dont remove the radiator i thought i need to so i did and it is a B*TCH and unneccery just remove the fan's and i would recomend a Chilton manual i have one and it is a life saver and i like it more then any other one but its not hard to repalce the opti and i would suggest to start ur car with ur water pump off to make sure it runs (only run it for a lil) would of saved me ALOT of work haha

i had great luck with replacing my cap and rotor only on my 95 impala. i tried going with the accel unit and it malfunctioned right out of the box. so, i just replaced the cap and rotor on my stock unit and presto! btw it was a borg-warner cap and rotor from oreilly's. just telling you what worked for me.

Drain radiator, drain both side of block, remove waterpump, remove optispark.
Installation in reverse.---optispark,waterpump, fill w/new coolant, bleed cooling system...BOOM you're done!
