it smells like gas while i'm driving, really bad. but with the windows up, a/c, heater or fan on i don't smell it at all, as soon as i roll the windows down on the freeway or through town it is really strong. i know i have an exhaust leak not sure where, but is this a different leak it smells just like fuel?

Could very well be an exhaust leak causing the stink

Charcoal canister? hole in the fill tube maybe an actual small fuel leak. I would get underneath the car and trace the fuel lines to make sure you dont have rusted lines.

Exhaust leak could also be causing a false lean condition causing the computer to dump fuel.

cool, definetaly need to get the leak fixed

Has anyone replaced the fuel pump by cutting out above the fuel tank (check under the carpet). I test drove a car last summer that smelled strong since this was never sealed back up.
