What is needed to convert my 97 Z28 to OBD I?

The only main difference is the pcm. call pcm for less, they can tell you more!

Do you need to swap the harness to?

I wasn't sure if they were compatible.

The obd1 just plugs right in. You need to change the knock sensor to one for an obd1 computer as well.

^As he said. Just plug the PCM in and change to an OBDI knock sensor.

That's weird that yoye guys say that about the knock sensor. I did the obd1 conversion on my 96 without changing the knock sensor. I used the LT4 knock sensor, and I never had any problems with it. I wonder why?

I think you are confusing the knock module with the knock sensor. The LT4 knock module will not be affected. The knock sensor uses a different resistance between obd1 and 2 so if you do not replace it you may get weird effects or a code 43.

You're right. I actually thought about that half way through the post, but it's been a while. I still didn't change the sensor, and had no problems. That car was always a little on the freak side.

i have an obd1 conversion with an lt4 knock module, just plugged it right in and that was it. runs great and all that, pcm4less never told me i had to change the knock sensor so i never did and no problems.

I did get the error code 43 when using an OBDII knock sensor with OBDI PCM

reading this thread got me thinking and maybe a little worried..i just recently bought a used obd2 motor and i used the new knock sensor that was on it. i have an obd1 setup and am wondering if its going to to damage anything?!? i havent noticed any problem with the performance but am wondering what are effects of running this obd2 knock sensor on my obd1 system.
