Most people call it a cold air intake (CAI). "Intake" by itself usually means an intake manifold that bolts to the lifter valley.
As for best, it depends on your goals. Most give the same hp gains. Get the biggest filter you can and a custom L-bend pipe. Use a silicone sleeve to join it to the MAF and filter.
Custom fit, no prob.
If you live in Cali, I belive the Lingenfelter CAI has a CARB number on it... not sure about the others out there. (SLP and AS&M used to make nice ones IMO).

Where'd you get that info?
I've had a Lingenfelter since 2000 and I can tell you I've seen several filters larger than the K&N in my lingenfelter. The SLP / AS&M system uses 2 filters, and like I said, there are custom filters out there you can set up for cheaper and have more filter area.
In fact, I read a few years ago about a CAI comparison and the Callaway and Lingenfelter units finished dead last due to slightly more restriction in the pipe (Lingenfelters "kink" at the turn as they go around the radiator mount).
Do what I said... buy a silicon sleeve, big *** filter and have a 4" muffler bend made to fit. Cheaper and more effective.
If you do buy a CAI, do NOT get a Lingenfelter... or I cxan sell you mine. :p
