XFI 292 or XFI 280 for my 408??
Just getting sme opinions on a possible cam swap in my car. Its a 69 camaro with a 408 sbc. I posted in here because I know quite a few of you LT1 guys run the XFI cams. I the car is currently running a carb but EFI is in the future as well a small nitrous kit. So the 113 LSA should work good. Here is the cars cuurent specs:
69 Camaro
408 sbc
10 to 1 comp ratio
AFR 195's
RPM air gap intake...1" open spacer
Holley 750
1.6 comp full rollers
MSD probillet dist/6AL/blaster coil
Comp XS274S solid flat tappet....274/280..236/242....534/544...110....016 lsh
1 5/8" longtubes
2.5" mandrel x pipe.....40 series flows....mandrel tails(2.5)
TH400....GV overdrive......Continental 3200 stall...tight 10"
Currie 9".....3.55 posi
275/50/15(26") BFG drag radials
Ran it a few times with no tunning an so far 12.04 at 112.3. It went 7.65 in the 1/8 at 89.8 with a 1.68 60 foot. So I am thinking about a retro roller conversion for my sbc. How do you think these cams would work in the 408??
Looking for peak power appox 6000rpm. Thanks guys!

The 280 is realistically too small for a 408 so I wouldn't pick that (that's smaller than what you have now).
The 292 might work ok, but I would recommend a custom for that kind of setup.
The low compression makes things more difficult because bigger cams will be less forgiving with that.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah thats it with the 10 to 1's and 3.55 gears cam selection is a bit tough. I did call Hi-Tech motorsports about a custom cam he recommended the XFI 280 but on a 110 for my set up. I also know a few guys running the XR294 an XR288 with good results. Not sure if the results will be worth the cash! here is a quick pic of the car......

With the cubic-inches you're running, you'll need every bit of the XFI-292's lift and duration. No brainer!
I love my XFI-292, really broad power band! Also, great looking 1st Gen!

If it were just between the two cam, then id choose the 292, BUT if I were you, that engine would be getting a custom grind like infinitebird said. And your car looks amazing! You to Engineer....
