Default 1.7 int./1.6 exh. RRs ?s

As you guys have seen I am in the build stages of a 396. Now I have been reading a lot of different articles and posts here and on other boards and have seen people using different ratio rockers for exh. and intake. Anyone care to explain the reasoning behind this?

It is an old school application and although theoretically it should still work on an LTX, the PCM adjusts A/F ratio. If you could get the tune to match the split you could see gains from it. Most cams offered are relatively close in/ex lift and duration and you are making a stepped difference when applying that, basically same as running a split cam. Understanding that the rocker multiplies the lift by its advertsied ratio can also give you a better idea of how the cam will operate with those changes.

I also would advise unless your heads are flowing in the range of 300 cfm to stay at 1.6 on either side.

It would make more sense to me to get a custom grind to do what you want.

Do yourself a favor and keep it at 1.6:1 - it is a bit easier on the geometry set-up.
