weld draglight prob.

So here's the deal,
About five months ago I got my draglights from summit racing. Mounted my slicks on em and of to the track I went. Got there, jacked my car up and slaped on my new slicks. First time to take a run with slicks is moments away, I'm pumped as the first time I saw a boob. Drop the car down and get my helmet to rip off to the staging lanes, fire the car up and let out the cluch, and something is wrong. It's draging the brake caliper in the inside of the rim!!! Totaly awsome...... Any suggestions?
I ground off the aluminum fins from the corner of the calliper to get them to work but it still rubs. What do you guys do? It's a 95 z28

whats ur backspacing?

Smokinlt1 02-12-2008 06:24 AM

I had to grind a lot off mine to make them work. 15x8 5.5 backspacing. I can't believe you didn't test fit at home first.http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...s/000_4943.jpg

I'm using a 5/16 aluminum spacer with no grinding. Don't forget you'll need some longer wheel studs also. The stockers are way to short for the draglites.

Keep grinding!

I grinded alot to fit my rears, mostly just grind the cooling fins down to nothing.

Just a matter of test fitting then grinding, then test fitting, then grinding etc. until no more rubbing. Maybe some bfh inside the wheelwells also, check it.

I forgot to mention at the begining, your gonna laugh at how dumb I am. I work to dam much and It was a case of getting the rubber mounted the day before driving the two hours to the track. No excusses but I should of test fit em I know.
I've got arp studs @2 and a half inches long so I think I'm all good. What I forgot to mention is that the inside of the rim was scored. Any idea how thick the aluminum is on the draglights? There 15x8 and I'm not sure of the back spacing but I think there the standard rim. I told the guys at summit about the size slicks I ran (26 x 10 I think) and they sent them to me.
I didn't know about this site even two monts ago or I would of done things different or at least been informed, no one has our type of car where I live. Thanks for the info, I'm gonna keep grinding I don't like the Idea of spacers.

Probly need to keep grinding some more off the caliper, take just enough to clear the caliper, but if you get new brakes in the future that might cause caliper to hit the rim and will need more grinding. Double check it again if you put new brakes.

No spacer with mine, just a lot of metal gone off my calipers. But i sold them and now got convo prod that you dont need to grind in the first place... DOH!!

NorthernZ 02-13-2008 12:28 AM
