3500 stall 4l60e need tuning?

ok i just got my car back on the road and was wandering if i needed to tune my computer for the much higher yank 3500 stall converter that i just put in? it drrives great but sometimes dies when revved and just let off of the gas . the rpm drops and sometimes recovers and then idles fine but then again sometimes it doesnt recover and dies. oh and just to make things clear it happens when i have lifted off the gas to idle and when the rpms drop. Also i dont know if it is the same issue but sometimes it seems like it goes into a limp mode and has absolutely no power for a minute or two then suddenly runs perfect?!?:bang: an info or stories are very welcomed:confused:

I havent had my computer tuned for my SS3600 yet and it runs great. It wouldnt hurt to have it tuned, that way you can set your lockup mph etc. etc. My car will stall in reverse if I hit the gas and it will surge but I think thats because of my cam.

okay maybe it isnt related to the problem then. I never had a problem before i installed it. anybody else?

i have heard of thiis b4... its called like limp mode or something and u do need it tuned out... i dn someone with more expirence will chime in

but toher then that prob how is the driveability? im looking to getting a high stall for my bolt on lt1 and was wondering how the driveabilty was

the obd1 cars sometimes have issues with higher stalls.

From what I have read eliminating the VSS diagnostic and sometimes reducing the shift point usually fixes it.

Never heard of an issue quite like this. There is some tuning that needs to be done. Some idle tuning is needed on some cars for the much lighter rotating wieght(no more stored energy). You will want to move your shift points some and definately your lock up points. Then the is the stall wall. That will need tuned around also ;)

Good luck man!

ok i was thinking it might've been in the stock tune but i am in the process of tuning the pcm so i will cross my fingers lol. but yeah the drivability is great with this converter and you cant beat the lockup on the highway.. feels like stock.

any ideas on what to adjust on the trans settings to play nice with the converter?

I had the same problem its called the "stall wall". I believe it sets the codes PO757 AND 751. I was told to find them in the tune and put an X in there.
