I currently own a 00 WS6, but I did have a low 12s LT1 for many years. It was a lot of fun beating LS1s at the track. Most LS1 owners assume they will out run a LT1....They typically have a shocked look on their face after they see the tail lights of a LT1. |
LT1_T/A I wouldnt worry because most of the LS1 guys feel the same way about the Terminator Cobras as you do w/ the LS1's. It takes all the bolt ons for some Ls1's to even hang w/ a well driven stock snake (if any still exist :) ), and because there boosted it takes a good heads and cam package to put down similiar power to a lightly modded 03/04 cobra . Ive seen 12.9's stock outta LS1's and ive also seen 12.4's outta stock cobras, and once the modding begins the gap only widens. I like both mustangs and maros but if I was going to get either I would get the LT1, buy it outright and have a modfest. For me low 12's higher 11's would be more then enough and either car is fairly easy to get there. Except for the front clip they look indentical so it all depends on your wallet size, for the average guy either car can get just as fast as the other just one needing more. Back when the LS1 first came out and i still had my 97 it use to eat me alive lol, but then again i was 19 in college, broke, and couldnt really afford to do more then bolt ons. |

And the LS1 bolt on record is 10.6. Just one more reason for the OP to be hatin on the LS1  Anyway. I like em both so whatever. |

Thats in an auto. M6 bolton is is 11.4@117. That vs 11.8@114 aint that bad. Just a clarification FWIW. Apples to apples there. Anyway. I like em both so whatever. If the debate is A4 vs M6 or auto vs manual then that makes more sense. But when the debate is motor vs motor then you gotta go with whatever transmission gets the job done best. For the LS1 it's an automatic and for the LT1 it happens to be a manual. |

If you lose then it's no biggie because no one expected you to win anyway. But if you win then it's just that much more fun. |

That was a big deal a few years ago but now the LS1 cars are getting inexpensive enough now that just about anyone can afford one. I've seen plenty sell for under 10K. |
yeah thats what i like about lt1's, they are so cheap you still have money to get some mods after you buy the car...i only paid 5500 when i bought my lt1, and then had money to start buyin some parts for it. If i would have gotten an ls1, i would have a car note and barely have any money to buy anything for it! |

Yeah but when you can spend 4k and get a nice LT1 car there is several thousand you can spend on parts. Its also very easy to find an LT1 car that needs motor work and if your gonna do it any ways then thats even more money saved. I have even seen clean cars go for like 3,500 or 1,500-2,000 for a non running car. |

And what is the record for the stock internal auto LT1? I honestly don't know but it's obviously slower then 11.8 @ 114. Now can we compare that number to 10.6? Getting transmission specific when it comes to a record such as stock internal or cam only is splitting too many hairs IMO. If the debate is A4 vs M6 or auto vs manual then that makes more sense. But when the debate is motor vs motor then you gotta go with whatever transmission gets the job done best. For the LS1 it's an automatic and for the LT1 it happens to be a manual. No I think it really becomes more of a "who gutted the shit out of their car more" debate. I mean really 300-320 RWHP vs 340-370 RWHP full bolton vs full bolton. That doesn't equate to 1.2 seconds difference in ET. Tranny is a VERY big factor in that et. Takes a lot of skill to row through the gears versus stab and go with a slushbox. Again compare apples to apples. |
I bought my camaro for 2500 bucks blown up, but it had the ss hood, BMR p/h bar 1.6rr tuned pcm, and a flawless leather interior with almost new tires so wth i bought it... |
I will never own a car I cant pay for. Nor will I take out a loan or a credit card I cant pay off at the end of the month. But thats just me. |

im lookin at a super chevy right now and it says ls3....i dunno, the chevy website should be right.. |

That doesn't equate to 1.2 seconds difference in ET. The LS1 makes good top end power so it makes sense to use an automatic here. Why? Because you can then pick a steep gear (4.56 in this case) and match it with a big stall that carries with it a big shift extension. Add to that mix a trans brake and you got the perfect quarter mile setup. One that launches hard and never leaves its power band. On the other side of this debate you have the stock internal LT1. Unfortunately it doesn't make such good top end power. So a big stall and big shift extension would hurt this cause not help it. That is why the M6 with a great driver makes more sense. Get as much RWHP as possible matched with the best driver and decent gears.

Again compare apples to apples. The LS1 stock internal record IS 10.6 @ 122 whether you like it or not. The fact that a LT1 can't hit that mark with an auto because of where its powerband is in no way the LS1's fault. |
^^Very good info right there..

The base Camaro..which I have heard from some people is supposed to be known as the Camaro R/S..is supposed to have a LS2 in it. I'll look into it and see what I can find. |

The LS1 makes good top end power so it makes sense to use an automatic here. Why? Get as much RWHP as possible matched with the best driver and decent gears. First of all I agree it takes a lot of skill to row the gears as well as Shon, Taner, Evan, ect. But it's not as simple as stab and go with the LS1 record holder. Reason is the tranny used was a TH400 that does require manual shifting (just not using a clutch). It is apples to apples. The records are what they are and you can't disqualify one just because it makes your argument look bad :D The LS1 stock internal record IS 10.6 @ 122 whether you like it or not. The fact that a LT1 can't hit that mark with an auto because of where its powerband is in no way the LS1's fault. Record is 10.86@122 not 10.6 (guess you missed that "8" in there). Set by a guy in SC just 5 minutes from my GFs parents house. Absolutely awesome! Hope I get to see him run up there soon. Second his raceweight was 2800 lbs (car itself weighs in at just over 2600 lbs), with Shon's car weighing in at 3150 as I recall. Practically the same weight? Guess that means A GT500 convertible is just a wee bit heavier than a C6 Z06 right? :jest: Look I did not get on here to get pulled into another retarded LT1 vs LS1 debate. Gonna put add an LS1 M6 to my collection of cars probably sometime late this year. I simply stated IF you are going to compare the two, at LEAST compare them tranny vs tranny. And again, the M6 LS1 SI record is 11.4@119 still better than 11.8@114. There done nuff said:chug: |

I went to the track yesterday (1/4 mile) and I have an lt1 as you can see with some mods. I have no tune by the way. I ran a 13.4 three times...Well my friend has an ls1 ss stock. He ran 14.0 twice. He wanted me to run it for him so i did and ran a 13.37! That really pissed me off that i beat my car with his car and his shit is stock! So i got my car again and ran another 13.4! then i went around again and ran a 13.31....So i felt a little better that my time was better than his but i hate ls1's!!!!! Well what pisses me off more is that on the way home my opti went out! and it aint the first time....Anyway i have a cc306 cam on the way and now it looks like i'll be gettin another opti...Does my time look good for the mods i have???? How much improvement on my time will i see with the cam and a tune? |

LS1s sound like crap. They aren't good sounding motors. I'd be ashamed to have a loud exhaust in an LSx. I also think they lose in the looks department. Hence me buying my LT1. I LOVE the LT1 Trans Ams and Formulas. All V8s with long tubes and exhaust have a good sound to them, unless your talking about a hilly billy whos driving his lifted stock truck with cherry bombs...then yeah it will sound bad.. But to say somthing like that is just dumb |
lol its too late!!! i already ordered the cc306... |

All I meant was that there were a lot of people that wanted LS1's 3-5 years ago but couldn't afford to finance a 15-25k car. Now anyone that can afford a $200-$250 month car payment can have a LS1 fbody if they want it. Anyone can find a 80-120K 98-99 LS1 for 5-8K...they are not that expensive. A low mile LT1 in nice shape can still pull a nice price as well. |
