9 MPG's on stock engine!

I just got 130 miles to this tank with an all stock motor. I even have 4.10's so that number is over. The highest I have seen since driving this car recently is like close to 200 to a tank. All of this is street driving. I have probally filled it up 10 to 15 times in the last couple months with all the driving I do. Some specs on the car:
-Stock alum heads w/b body short block and cam.
-Stock 95 F body tune (from 95 probally)
-160 t stat
-It never gets past 170 in traffic
-6 speed car with only bolt ons.
Thanks, Brad

Well I most likely would think:

1. Your keeping the pedal to the metal
2. You got one hell of a fuel leak going
3. Someone is jacking your gas at night
4. Something is way, way wrong with the pcm and it's in serious need of a tune.
5. Your running something higher number than a 4.10 gear on a little tire.

or

6. All the above.

Good Luck fixing the problem!

that sucks, i manage about 250 a tank on my a4 and thats about 18mpg.

B-Rad420 May 7, 2008 10:13 AM

Yeah it does. My caprice 9C1 got much better MPG's and it was auto and a boat. In the past with this car and the stock cam and short block the best it got was like 20 mpg's on the high way and 15ish around town. Even with 2 diferent ecm's.

Forgot to mention that I did install new springs and rockers. Also deleted the EGR and AIR system.

Maybe #4 but thats it. Actually I have been getting on it a lil harder this tank but on a couple past tanks I drove it like a granny and have gotten like 170 and less.

I havent purchased a tune yet because I am trying to decide if I want to buy LT1Edit or not. Otherwise that would of been my starting point just kinda worried that if its something on the car getting the a/f all outta wack then it would probally do it with the newly tuned ecm. The area around the tips is pretty dark and the car definatly smells like fuel when your behind it.

you have a problem forsure.I would try not to drive it till you get it scanned to figure it out.I get about 10 mpg with a solidroller 383 and a th400(no overdrive) but thats with 112 race fuel so I dont know how it converts

You need to replace your thermostat with the 180 one. If your on a stock tune the 160 does nothing for you except waste your gas because the vehicle isn't up to operating temperature.

Without a tune the 160* stat is making you run rich, but shouldnt make that much of a difference.

Id change the temp sender in the waterpump if it goes back it reads -XX* and runs PIG rich.

I disagree:D had a 160 on mine without tune and didn't see any change what so ever in mileage. My sugg is to get it looked at or a fresh tune up.

i also have a 160 t-stat and i get 20mpg with an a4 with 2500 stall and 3.73s and bolt-ons

strokin93z May 7, 2008 06:36 PM

i went from 12-15 to 20-22 with just a tune up. Plugs/wires etc.

ThoR294 May 7, 2008 10:35 PM

I fill up at around 200-210miles on the tank, and its generally between 9-12 gallons...

94m6Z28 May 8, 2008 12:37 AM

stock with easy gas *shifting under 2500 in an m6 with 3.73s* i could get 20mpg city and i took a nice lil trip and i avg. about 30

B-Rad420 May 8, 2008 09:57 AM

I have new plugs and wires. The car also has a maf sensor from another f body, as mine was stolen awhile back. I do have a SES light on but I thought it was probally from maybe the EGR and AIR not being plugged in. Could AutoZone tell me anything?

kezy219 May 8, 2008 10:05 AM

lol off topic but how did someone manage to steal your MAF?

DarkKnightTA May 8, 2008 11:45 AM

Are you throwing any codes? Check the fuel injectors, clean'em up and all that jazz. Mine starting missing and getting crap for gas, and I found out I had a bad injector, but I threw a code. Just something to check and a good starting point.

19mike84 May 8, 2008 08:50 PM

i get about 80-90 miles per tank.... i have this problem with my right leg, it always goes to the floor

tspence45 May 8, 2008 09:39 PM

I typically get around 200-220 out of a tank. 200 mostly. I need to do a little tune-up though (plugs/wires). I also need to quit openning up the cutout and putting my foot to the floor. lol

halucinator May 9, 2008 01:20 AM

I get 300 to a tank, but thats because I don't beat the shit out of my car on a daily basis. Seems to work for me.
