Opti Was NOT the Problem

The car has been running sluggish, threw a code, would actually hesitate and sputter a bit over 3500RPM. Took it in to my mechanic expecting it to be the opti (wasn't too worried as I bought one with the lifetime replacement). As it turned out it was the ICM, pretty much toast. He also did the spacer mod when doing the replacement and the car runs great again, gas mileage is also better (unless I'm imagining things). Word to the wise, don't always assume it's the opti and make sure you get a mechanic who understands LT1's (the first shop I took it to just assumed it was the opti).

thanks for the thread. optis either work or don't work. there is no "well, it sputters at high RPM" or "the car feels sluggish." when the opti goes, the car will stall. there's no two ways around it. and most people with the sluggish or high rpm misses have a perfectly good optispark, but just need a routine cap/rotor.

Grats man, sounds like a problem I'm having, if you dont mind me asking how much did a new ICM run you and do you have a link to the "spacer mod"

I think my mechanic got the part for around $110, here's the link for an explanation of the mod:

Just scroll down, you'll see it.
