carb'd Lt1s What are you using for a harmonic balancer?? |
I got one for the LT1 but it sticks out so far without the opti I wish I would have checked into one for a sbc. |
LT1s don't use a balancer, it's just a hub. Unless I've been lied to these past few years :P |
Its a harmonic damper. LT1's balanced internally up front, externally at the rear. |

if you're using a crank trigger or sumthing else that deletes the opti use an ATI balancer..... The fluiddampers are HUGE by comparison and the last thing i want is a 25lb brick on the front of my engine..... My engine builder and I got rid of mine for an ATI the second he weighed my fluiddampr..... |
The problem with running a different dampener is that you'd have to use aftermarket accessory brackets. That or space out the pulley I guess, but then you'd have to really know the change in spacing that's occurred. |
Im running the stock balancer. I made a custom pointer that bolts to the timing cover. While I was degreeing in the cam, I made marks on the stock balancer at TDC and 35deg BTDC. I got rid of the OPTI also, and run a standard SBC distributor with 6AL and adjustable timing control hooked up to it. I set the baseline timing at 35 deg using a standard timing light, then took the car to the track making multiple passes at different timing settings to find out where the car ran the best. |
So whats your track times carbed vs stock setup? |
Im not going to post up what times the car has run this year untill probably the end of the year. I like to do a little street racing, and there are people that know my screen name here, and check to see if im posting times. But, anyways all I can say is the car ran much faster than I expected it would after swaping over to a carb. I am very happy with the results. |
lol So PM me then -_- I don't race at the track OR the street (other than a friendly light to light). |
