Default How to remove the haromonic balancer

So my opti went out and i figured today would be the day to get a start on it befor iwent to work. Well it was going okay until i tried to take the bolt's out of the balanceri sparyed them with oil nothing. I got a breaker bar got me no where how do some of you other guy's do it?

I know its not right but i have my best luck using a air wrench

I used a 3 claw puller like pictured to get the balancer off. Like said above I also used an air wrench which made things alot easier. I believe you can rent a puller like that from Autozone if you do not already have one.

no i have a pully puller i just can't get the dam bolt's out. I don't have any air tool's either

but anyways i now no i can preceed no farther now. I have an air compressor though how much does a cheap air wrench cost, actually i bet my brothe rin law has one

$25 from walmart not the best but they will get the job done

cool if my in law won't loan me his i may get one. Should i look into buy a new harmonic balancer when i go to put it back on?

with the very tight aera around that spot would an air wratchet work and be better

air ratchets don't usually have the torque to break the bolt loose. An imapct will and the jarring motion the hammers inside the imact make will also help to break it loose

Get you a Breaker Bar if the Bolts won't come out..use a little muscle on it..

As long as you don't damge the one you currently have, you shouldn't need a new one. If you remove the right side fan, you'll have a little extra work room. One other thing you could do is get an "impact" rated u-joint, and a medium lenght extension, then you'll have a little more room to work with, as you can hold the gun closer to the bottom of the car.


One tip for you if for some reason you have to remove the entire balancer assembly....The "hub" portion of the balancer assembly DOES NOT have a keyway to locate it for re-installation. When I took mine off, I was lucky, as over time, the hot engine oil "tatooed" a mark in the crank snout. Be careful if you remove the hub, to make sure that you get it back in the same place, as it's important to do so.
