What's leaking?? Pics! Well just recently I noticed that my TA has a slow leak that will drip several drops a day onto the garage floor. I tried to identify it the best i could. I looks like it is coming somewhere from right behind the main pulley that I have in my pictures. Sorry the pictures aren't the best, but if you have any idea as to what is leaking please let me know! Looks like the crank hub seal. The hub is notorious for getting a groove worn in it where the seal rides and causing a leak. A new seal usually won't fix it. You can get a new hub or try a sleeve. |
Looks like its from behind the crank sensor. I believe there is an o ring up in there, and sometimes it gets warn out. I have the same leak, and that's what the guys at my shop told me. Mines so minor I'm not worried about it till I do my cam swap. Yours looks a little more advance than mine. I would try replacing that o ring first, it's a real cheap fix. And if that's not it at least you replaced that seal anyways. |
The oil is thrown all over, the crank sensor is below the put where that could happen. Not saying it can't leak, but I am saying the crank sensor is not the big leak he go going on there |
I have a similar leak on my 94 z28...I know it is the seal on the timing cover for the water pump gear. When I replaced my oil pan I redid all the seals on the timing cover as well, but after several attempts, I still had a small leak out of that seal. I am gonna fix it, but it is such a pain in the ass to do. |
My engine looked like it was leaking oil from everywhere. I bought a couple cans of brake clean and hosed down everything, then changed the front hub seal. My engine has been bone dry for over 200 miles now. When the front seal leaks it will sling the oil as is covers the hub. |
Check seals on waterpump, cam, crankshaft, maybe even timing cover where it meets with the oilpan. |
Ok, thanks for all the replies, when I have a chance I'll have to start taking things apart, these seals shouldn't cost much should they? |
Oh man, my car is doing the same thing as we speak! I just got the felpro seal kit for the front end, replaced the Seal between the Opti and Cam, and it still leaks like a siv! So it musnt be that, please keep me updated as to how your working with this, because id like to pinpoint this before i tear everything down for a 3rd time. |
