I'm always breaking stuff

I decided to pull my driver's side manifold to replace the gasket since it was blown and the ticking was driving me insane

I broke 2 of those just recently, make sure you get the right one. Autozone has like 3 different ones.

Pretyflywiteguy Sep 27, 2008 02:03 AM

i'll make sure to bring the original with me

Be prepared for a serious flow of coolant when you remove it.....

Purple95Z28 Sep 27, 2008 08:01 AM

Make sure you get the one that has one pin, the first one I bought from the parts store was the right sensor but the connector was setup for a 2 pin plug and the connector on the car was one pin. I had to have them pull a sensor from a different brand to get the right one.

Yeah the temp sensor is a fun one, especially if you go somewhere like the chain part stores. Huh two different temp sensors? Yeah you dumb rocks! Pull up the pictures, I want the one that goes in the head.

the_merv Sep 27, 2008 11:05 AM

I hated that one cause you could never find it..lol

I'm currently using one in my Stroker that's from a 1998 LS1 only, it's a 3-pin. I have only found it at GM.

yeah, i broke that little thing when i was installing my headers. my friend was putting the drivers side header in from the top and we didnt see what was holding it, so after him pushing and me pulling, the header suddenly popped down. then i see i have a broken sensor, oh well. lol.

the_merv Sep 27, 2008 03:41 PM

I think more people have broken that one than have not..lol

BOLO Sep 27, 2008 03:45 PM

Personally, I would replace any sensor with oem original GM only.

Formula350 Sep 27, 2008 03:55 PM

I haven't broken mine yet ;D But I haven't removed exhaust, only did spark plugs.

camar0corey Sep 27, 2008 04:17 PM

I never broke that one, but somehow in its life it the plastic connector part had melted. Gauge still functioned.

I agree on using OEM parts for sensors. I should have noted that I had that wire get ripped off though, and I went through a circus with the dealership to get the right connector. Fun stuff, sometimes the diagrams on their screens have way too many numbers on them, hard to pick out and cross reference what you want.

the_merv Sep 27, 2008 04:21 PM

I had to make a Connector for that. I couldn't find one, so I made one from a 2-Pin Connector for a Temp Seonsor.

You said it was a 3 wire, the TPS or computers CTS didn't work?

Oddly enough, the Ford Powerchoke has a few sensors that are 3 prong and are the same as the LT1s CTS and the 3 prong TPS heh. I know dis because there's a mod that if you want to make it look nice, you hack up a CTS to use the plug-in part heh (long boring story)
