Edelbrock 2108 Cam-My track times
Well I got my first times on the cam only setup with the EDL-2108 cam....first since I got it installed..as I know not a whole lot of folks have this cam installed....
13.03@103 mph spinning
But with the 3200 Stall I kept running out of tire and just couldnt get out of the hole very well...my best 60ft on a street tire was a deadhook 1.8
Avon Tyres 275/40/17 at 28 lbs..not bad for 99 bucks a piece
I was pleased with the results of the cam and its where I expected it to be...
Race weight was 3605 lbs with me in it so If I can knock some weight down and put some radials on it, it should be well into the 12's
certainly not the best cam out there for it but I wasnt as experienced and as knowledgeable then as I am now...so I decided to make the best out of it and run it...
Cam only car with all supporting mods

My highest trap of the day was near 105 but that was a 13.2 run after tuning the shift points, with the best run of 13.03 trapping a 103 as far as mph, before the tuning and it banging off the limiter, but it just happened to dead hook one time yesterday
Keep in mind the car is spinning horribly and isnt hooking much....not to mention it was rather warm yesterday and most of the runs were done when it was being hotlapped and banging off the limiter.. in two gear shifts
The tuning was done by someone with a 900 HP Turbo LT1 who knows his stuff ...so no issues there...we adjusted the shift points yesterday, as it was banging off the limiter pretty hard on the 1-2 and 2-3 shift...so we got that issue worked out and it started trapping higher...
and yes its a full bolt on car as well...lt's, full exhaust, stall, etc.
The cam is the limiting factor and the reason its not trapping any higher..there is a dead spot in the cam that takes about a full second to pull through and thats whats really hurting me...I have dynoed it and also figured out what the hp should be with my times and weight and everything is on the money as far as trap speeds and power and times compared to the dyno, within 1 mph...the cam is just limiting me
I wont see much of anything further until the cam is swapped out for something with a better profile..I simply made a mistake when I picked the cam out
I will go bigger eventually but, for the race weight, I was content with the times...thats almost down in the 12's on a small cam like that..not too shabby by any means..the car is mechanically sound as it has less than 8k miles on the motor since it was rebuilt, if that
And another thing that may be playing a part in the trap speeds is the shift points...we had to bring them down from 5700 to 5400 rpms for it to shift and not bang off the rev limiter like it was doing...that was the best medium we could find...I know alot of guys are shifting most a lil higher in the rpms and that may be hurting me, who knows...I will need to do a lil more tuning on it probably, but since someone else does the tuning I cant do it at the drop of a hat

yeah your right, technically speaking, but I didnt gain that much from having the motor bored .030 over
its not that big of a difference over the stock displacement, and it wasnt done for the performance aspect of it, it was done to ensure that everything was fresh when we built the motor...the bottom end is all stock specs, stock crank, stock pistons, rods etc...the valve train is the only thing that has really been changed

What brand stall, and why didn't you raise the rev limiter instead of lowering the shift points? Just curious on both counts
Even with that baby cam you can still run into 12s NA once everything is ironed out.

I was shitfting my bolt on car at 6k. I'm sure if you spin her up a little more she'll make more power for you.

Honestly I would have a professional tuner like PCMforless tune the car and I guarantee that thing would run a few tenths faster. I dont trust anyone except for a few tuners, even a known guy in my area couldn't even compete with my PCmforless tune. With it shifting at 5400 its definetly going to run bad et's and trap low, once the shiftpoints are raised to where they should be (6100ish) I think it should wake up some.

You need to raise the limiter no doubt., i loose .3 & 2 mph shifting from 5500 too 6000 with a stock cam, raise the limiter & shift it at 6-6100 & i'm sure it'll go 12.8s easy.

I was there and saw him spinning like mad. With some bigger gears, sticky tires, a lil weight reduction, and a better tune so he doesnt bounce off the revlimiter he should have a sub 12.5 car which is still respectable. I got my tune from Ian and it was bouncing off the revlimiter as well.

308hp/320tq through the EDGE 3200 Stall...and thanks Smokin...the traction was killing me
but some of you guys are probably right..maybe it does need to be shifting higher than what it is at now...but I wanted it to at least not bang off the limiter rather than spinning it to 6100 and it hitting off the limiter on every shift, possibly damaging the motor...I think the reason we set the shift points and the limiter so low is because I'm afraid of tearing it up, as its not a major build...more of a stock rebuild with a few tweaks....Im starting to think that letting it spin a lil farther would be beneficial to it though...maybe a pro tune would be better but I have heard horror stories and wonderful stories as well..so I am a lil hesitant to change what I have..but now seeing what she did I may change it up in the future
At least I know where it stands..its a 12 second capable car all day long

as far as the rev limiter vs the shift points, I had someone else adjust the shift points and he felt that would be where it should be at to account for the lag, we had it shifting at 5700 but it was bouncing off the limiter like crazy.....bringing it down to 5400 allowed it to shift without hitting the rev limiter...the limiter is set at 6000 so its not that far off....but from 5700 to 6000 the tranny was just not shifting cause the motor was spinning through the rpms so fast, partially due to a loss of traction
not to mention that I dont know the first thing about tuning
