Default Trans. fluid rec. by 6 spd trans. builders?

What kind of lubricants are being ran in trans?
Race?
Street?
I saw some different fluids being used at lsx shootout in memphis. What is yours?

Tremec specifies that ATF is used, so thats what most people run.

Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF is highly reccommended by most rebuilders.

Some people run synchromesh, but blocker rings really aren't designed to work with that fluid, plus its thicker which can create shifting issues.

I saw two manual cars using what I thought was a lucas product in memphis it had a green look to it and would hardly come off the gear sets with brake clean it was caked onto the gears and the shafts inside almost like grease when the trans. was taken apart.

The gears in a modern transmission get very little wear, it's the shifting components. I would not expect a thick "grease like" product to perform well at all in a T56 with fibre or carbon-fibre friction rings.

Dex-III is what these transmissions need.

I've used the RP Syncromax for as long as I've had the trans. The original owner also used RP in it. So far so good.

Thicker definitely isn't best in this situation...

We run cheap Dextron 3 in 99% of the tranny's. The heavy road raced cars get synthetic to battle heat.

+1 for the dex 3. I had syncromesh in mine (got it used with the mesh in it, so I put it back in), then I drained it out and flushed it and put some dex 3 and it made a huge difference with cold shifting and shifting in general. Now it only grinds slightly in 5th when its really really cold, instead of into every gear.

I used DEX VI in my recent clutch install. I read it does better for some climates. It drives great, I just don't have the 500 hundred miles on the new Clutch. So I haven't tested a WOT in it.

I put in Mobil 1 ATF when I did my first drain and fill. I didn't like how it made the shifts feel - sort of dry and scratchy, as if it was about to grind ... almost like I was beating the synchros.

Switched back to regular Dex III and it smoothed things out again.
