T-56 Dexron III What fluid are you guys using in your T-56s? I know they dont make Dexron III anymore. so I wonder what is the best CHoice to use.. I havent used this, but is Dexron VI ok to use?? I dont want no answers like " yes, it exceeds Dexron III, so it myst be fine".. because when they made Dexron VI, they probably had Auto transmissions in mind.. I wonder what was the last year they made T-56s and what they still used.. Like what does the CTS-V use? but then again, I dont think they're running T-56s anymore, either.. Does anyone know whats the Best ATF to use in a Built T-56?? |
Im a manager at a auto parts store and they still do make dextron III. lets just say you go to NAPA and pick up a few quarts of part #75-200 or you can pick it up at any auto parts store. |

Thanks for the help.. But I am still curious if we can run any other ATF in our cars, if they say they exceed Dexron III... etc.. |
I haven't done any research, but I next time I need a tranny fill for the T56 it will be with Dexron IV. The reason it's called Dexron is to assure people that it's backwards compatible. Otherwise a new oil would be called something else. I can't imagine D4 has omitted anything that D3 had. Or that D4 has added anything harmful that D3 did not have. This is the logic I'm going with even though I don't know shit about it. |
If I'm not mistaken..Dex IV is Full Synthetic..that is what I've been hearing from a few people. |

I knew it..:D |
dex IV is backwards compatible with III but im not sure if its full syn,if so i wouldnt use it if your t56 is equipped with the paper blocker rings, only use with carbon fiber rings. |
use syncromesh it was a big improvement over dex III for me much much smoother |

Ahh so anyways, I ended up with Pennzoil DexIII compatible ATF.. Im gonna need to rebuild the T56, again soon, so I guess Ill use that (unless it sucks or something)... Anyways, where are you guys buying your rebuild kits these days... |

thats the royal purple stuff. the one i bought is pennzoil the same oil GM uses, theres is rebadged pennzoil as well. it really made my car shift smooth. i went from mobil 1 dex III to regular dex III (it was actaully smoother then full syn) then syncromesh about $10 a quart and this made a very big differance especially in the mornings Thanks.. So Pennzoil should be alright.. Cool, thanks |

I had carbon blocker rings when I rebuilt the T56.. But the paper and carbon blocker rings look very similar, if not identical from physical appearance, at least thats how they looked after ATF was covering them.. |
I know that DEX VI is not recomended for t56 trans. Stick with dex III, Mobile 1 synthetic ATF or I have used AMS oil syncromesh |

I don't know what kind you used but every one of the CF Synchros that I have seen look very different from the stock paper ones. They look like a flat charcoal colour. (the carbon ones).. The "paper" ones looked very similar to me. (unless my trans had been rebuilt before?) But I doubt that, I bought the car at 56k miles, at a dealer and no history of rebuilt trans.. Besides, everything else in the T-56 looked stock.. |

It was in some literature from Tremic. Saying that Dex VI was not recomended for the t56. Also GM calls for dex III or there special man. trans fuild. I wanna know what type of fluid people are running in their 700+rwhp capable T-56s... Dex III is fine, but is there a better Dex III out there for a more race built T-56? The car is a D.D. although these days its not seeing as much mileage as it used to... The car gets drag raced, but also occasional road racing as well.. Car makes near 500rwhp now and maybe a bit more in the near future.. I expect the car to maybe make 700+RWHP in the future... |
