Default popping out of 6th

My transmission on my Z06 Corvette is physically popping out of gear when you try and accelerate. All other gears work great, including 6th, it just pops out under load. If you hold it in it works. Any idea whats wrong?

Could be a broke key in the 5/6 syncro.or a worn syncro.

So you would need to replace the whole synchro then?

i havn't no. I just bought the car 10 months ago and parked it for the winter 7 months ago. So I've only put 2500 miles on it. The car has just about 100,000 miles on it tho.

100k miles if it still factory fluid, its over due. When ever I bought a car, wat ever the last owner told me, I change it out anway, drain the fluid out the put in new fluid, hope you dont see any peice of syncro coming out. if it does, its a very bad sign.

if it is poping out of gear it is likely that the syncro is or keys are broke. Fluid change will not do anything. Most likely the broke piece is stuck to the magnet.

Change the fluid anyway, it really easy on a manual. might as well change out rear diff with red line gear oil too.

A fluid change will not fix a broken syncro. You need to pull out the trans and replace the syncro

That is a waste of money. The problem needs to be found and corrected.

K so if I take this whole tranny apart tho, do I need a whole new synchro or can I purchase like a synchro gear, or is there such a thing? Anything else that I would need while it's apart?

If it is just 5th you want to fix then you could probably just remove the tailhousing and do a new 5/6 syncro which includes springs and keys. Then i would do the blocker rings. But if it is apart you might aswell build the rest of it.

On Corvettes, the diff is attached to the trans. It will be a major undertaking (need to remove the rear cradle to remove the trans/diff together) to do this yourself. Have a shop do it for you unless you have done this before or mechanically inclined.

Missed that. Assumed it was a f-body. Yes removing that cradle is a pain.
