Default Third gear grind

So there I was, minding my own business.

Decided that it would be a grand idea to race my buddy's R6 last Sunday. Yes, I was very rough on the car. Yesterday, I go outside to my car and begin the entertaining drive to work. When I shift into third, everything feels normal until I start to release the clutch pedal. Then, out of nowhere, CLUTCH GRIND. I skip third and go straight to 4th, almost instinctively. Then, I shift into fifth, as I move the shifter into fifth, it goes in, however it grinds on the way there. Now, both gears grind every time. Sometimes I can get 3rd gear to go in for about 5-10 seconds after I release the clutch, but it gets kicked out to neutral.

Normally I would think that this would be something internal to the transmission, but this simply came out of nowhere.

So what does everyone think? Hydraulics, clutch or transmission?

Tried something new today...

Shifted from second to third without touching the gas pedal. It goes in fine when I do this. However, when I touch the gas, the clutch pops into neutral.

Any ideas?

You probably broke the 3-4 keys inside the trans when you raced, then they came out of place the next day when you were driving. I see this type of thing happen all the time. They are notorious for breaking as they are made of stamped steel. I replace them with billet keys every time I rebuild a T56. The inevitable truth is that you will need a rebuild. Check out the links in my sig for pricing..

Just curious.. Is there a normal route a person takes to remove/reinstall their trans? Or is it generally DIY?
