Default why will the 5-6/r shift rail not stay in?

I am rebuilding my t56 and i can't get this shift rail to stay in place. I have tried two different rails and i get the same from both of them. I haven't had this problem before and it is starting to aggravate me.

Do you mean it's falling off of the shift selector assembly? If so, some things I've done to help are:

1) rotate the selector assembly so that the selector pin is aligned with the 3-4 fork.

2) Use trans assembly lube grease on the selector assembly to keep everything in place.

3) Remove the Reverse Light switch from the case so it won't hit the 5/6/R rail during assembly.

Once you get it on, hand tighten the 5/6/R guide pin first, then the selector assembly guide pin to keep it all in place.

Yes it keeps rotating and falling off of the selector. When i put it on it just seems like it isn't sitting correctly. I will have to take it all apart and try it again whenever i find some motivation to do so. Thanks for the tips Mike.

Ok.. Check and make sure the 3-4 synchro keys are aligned with the blocker ring notches on the input shaft when you set the mainshaft down onto the input. If not, it will sit on the blocker (eventually cracking it) and the shift rails will "float" and could cause your problems.

Those are in and seated in the blocker ring. I am pulling it apart tomorrow night so i will double check all of that. Thanks Mike.
